In case you haven’t been here from the beginning, I’d like to introduce myself!

My name is Kaitlyn Hobbs. I’m 21 years old and I have been grooming for almost 2 years. I fell in love with dogs as a kid and just knew my career had to be with them

I have two dogs named Aspen and Nova. They mean the absolute world to me

Some of my hobbies are hunting, fishing, riding ATV’s and reading

Let’s talk dogs nails!

A lot of owners don’t realize how short a dogs nail should be

First collage is what dogs nails should look like

Second collage is what most dogs nails look like

I also added photos of my dogs nails for another example of what they should look like

A dogs nails should NOT touch the floor when stood normally and that’s the easiest way to see if your dogs nails are too long

Long nails can be really uncomfortable and even painful. They can cause joint issues as your dog leans back on it’s paws to relieve the pressure of the nail pushing back into the paw when it’s touching the floor

I recommend dogs getting their nails trimmed every 1-2 weeks. The more you get your dogs nails trimmed the more the quick will recede and they will be back to a healthy length

I offer nail trims for $10 so you don’t have to pay for a full grooming just to get your dogs nails trimmed! 🙂

I’m just gonna put this out there! My #1 priority is safely! Safety for not only myself but the dog/s. If I recommend vet prescribed medication please give the entire dose. The medication is to reduce fear, anxiety and stress in the dog/s. If at any point in time I feel I cannot safely proceed I will stop and charge for what was done not the full cost. I will then refer you to take your dog/s for a vet groom. This is to keep everyone safe including the dog/s. I will not force a dog to be groomed. When dogs are stressed they can be unpredictable causing injury to themselves or the groomer.

I am only with your dog/s 2-4 hours. Groomers can only do so much in this short amount of time. Maintenance and training needs to take place at home to ensure your dog/s does well with grooming. This maintenance includes regular brushing with a slicker brush and then checked with a metal comb. Short coated dogs need a equigroomer or zoom groom.

I have puppies that come in all the time that are between 6-8 months old for their first groom. This is not ok! They need to be worked with at home. Mess with their feet, their ears, hold their chin, lift their legs. Reward after every time they tolerate it

I understand a lot of people want a long beautiful fluffy coat but it’s not ideal for most households. If you want your dog/s to have a longer coat it’s going to require daily maintenance that can take half an hour or more every day! This style is not feasible for most. The last thing I like doing is shaving dogs especially double coated for a restart but it is becoming very common. Dematting is extremely painful, can cause skin injuries or worse. I will do what I feel is best for your dog/s!
