The Snow Litter is finally available for placement!

After contracting an unknown illness with an unprecedented 4 week recovery period, their delayed vaccination regime is finally underway. They have tested negative for FIV and FeLV and will soon receive their very own microchips. They still have two more FVRCP boosters (3-4 weeks apart) and their Rabies vaccination to get before they can go home, putting their potential go home date between February 6-13.

Things you need to know:

Mr. Nix (grey) never got sick and is purrfectly healthy.

Mr. Yuki (tabby) and Miss Lumi (tuxedo) were both hit very hard by the illness and have delayed growth. Yuki's testicles are very small and not fully descended. It is possible he may require a more involved surgery to neuter. Miss Lumi is still small for her age.

Mr. Snow (black): Has deformed rear legs making it appear he is walking on stilts. We are not sure if this is due to a neurological issue from the illness, or if he has a birth defect. He moves around beautifully, and pounces, plays, walks, runs, and uses the litter box well. He is, at the moment, cryptorchid (both testicle are undecended) and may require special surgical methods to neuter. He does have some trouble with stairs, but should outgrow the difficulties. He is much smaller than his siblings, but extremely cute and very adoptable. Neuter surgery required before go home. (Financial sponsors are welcome).

The sun has set on the last day of 2025. This has been a year of extreme highs and incredible lows. Many lives were saved and, unfortunately, too many were lost.

Soon I will be eliminating photos from 2025 from my phone, but not from my heart. All the stories, good and bad, will be set aside to make room for all the new ones to come.

I'm not placing names to any of the pictures, and I invite you to add your own pictures in the comments.

Let's remember the old, and welcome the new. Life should be a series of adventures. Hello, 2026.

Someone suggested that she never knew that certain items, plants, flowers, foods, oils, liquids, etc, can be very dangerous or even fatal to your cat. So let's delve into this subject, starting with Lillies.

THIS is what shelters and rescues do. This right here.

THIS is what shelters and rescues do. This right here.

I recently had a surrender appointment with two kind women. The emotional, caring conversation for the animal was rare. As they left, one said something harmless.

“We’ve got to go to our real jobs, but we wish we could just play with puppies as you do.”

They didn’t mean any harm. Not even a little.
But that sentence has sat heavily on my chest

Because animal shelter work is one of the most misunderstood jobs there is.

Yes, we love animals. And people use that against us, abuse it.
Yes, we absolutely treasure the moments when we get to cuddle a puppy or watch kittens romping around. And being happy.

But that is the tiniest sliver of what we do.

What people don’t see are the hours spent making impossible decisions. The intake rooms were filled with heartbreak. Having to vaccinate and administer dewormer preventatives as soon as they arrive. They see animals that come in neglected, injured, shut down, or broken. The conversations where we absorb someone else’s grief, guilt, anger, or desperation all at once. And are meant to fix it all right THEN.

They don’t see staff constantly cleaning kennels, advocating for animals that don’t have voices. Fighting burnout while still showing up with compassion. Being screamed at, thanked sometimes, ignored, blamed, looked down on, and relied on all in the same day.

Shelter staff don’t “just play with puppies.”
We carry the weight of lives every single day.

And we do it because we believe animals matter.

Because even on the hardest days, saving one life or giving one animal a chance makes it worth it.

So the next time you think of shelter work, know this.
Behind every wagging tail is a team holding up an entire world you rarely get to see. All while facing personal battles every single day.
They may be heroes. But they are humans.

Meowy Christmas from Fosterlings!

After their Christmas adventures with Santa and his sleigh, the elves dropped the kittens back at Fosterlings and tucked them into bed. When they awoke they found their bed decorated and full of brand new toys from Sandy Claws! Their bowls were filled with yummy treats including Reindeer P**p (Temptations) and delicious Purr Pops!

These kittens were a bit delayed due to an unknown illness and won't be ready to go home until early February, just in time for Valentines Day. They will be available for placement on January 1st.
