🎁That’s a wrap on our 2024 CSA! This year PFP had the honor of welcoming over 500 members each week to the farm to pick up fresh produce grown right here as well as yummy add-ons from our local partner farms. It was a joy to also see members of all ages come onto the land for PYO—for some kids it was their first time picking veggies, herbs & flowers! It was some adult members first time seeing how garlic (and many other plants) grow. The JOY 💕

🧑‍🌾 Quote from a CSA member’s awesome child:
“I didn’t know farming was a real job before; I want to be a farmer, too!”
Thanks to the many curious kiddos this season who brightened our days with great questions and to their grown ups who helped steward this close relationship with their food and farmers.

👏Over 150 of our members chose to be Workshare members & Bartershare members this year. They moved mountains to ensure bountiful harvests— sometimes those mountains looked like micro weeding baby carrots for a few hours. Other times the mountains were removing 10 foot tall tomato plants!

🥒We are so grateful for our members and all they continue to add to this community of shared agriculture. Thank you Members, All Staff, Bartershare, Workshare, the Board of Directors & Volunteers for a great season. You are rockstars.
🍉We hope to see you all in 2025! We’re enrolling returning members AND NEW members.

🚨 Sign Ups are OPEN! 23 weeks of fresh food coming to YOU in 2025.
🥗CSA is one of PFP’s community programs that goes above the transactional lens of other food distribution systems (like farmers market and grocery store). Although those are great options, the CSA model connects local participants with the land and with the process in which their food is grown week to week from June to November.
🧑‍🌾At distribution, we get great questions that spark insightful conversations which weave the web of community. We also have working shares that offer a discount for time spent on the farm weeding, harvesting, and maintaining farm spaces. This is also a time to deepen the relationship with both the space where your food is grown and the organization that operates there.
🍅PFP is consistently looking for ways to deepen local food access within the CSA program like operating at a sliding scale, accepting SNAP, and offering “pay what you can” shares.
✅Signing up early supports PFP at a time of year when growing slows down but the costs of operation remain.

Real quotes from real students:

"I feel like a real farmer!"
"[Deep sigh] This place is so beautiful..."
"I would like to get a job here."

2nd graders on PFP field trips this fall harvested fall veggies direct from the soil, chopped and tasted roasted beets for a Citrus Avocado Beet Salad, explored seed saving, and soaked up some sun on our front porch steps!

Thanks to all Poughkeepsie City School District teachers and chaperones who made these field trips possible.

🌱 Exciting News from Poughkeepsie Farm Project! 🌱

We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a $100,000 grant from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets () through the Farm-to-School program! This funding will help us bring fresh, locally sourced food to school cafeterias and develop educational programs across three area schools. 🎒🍎🥕

A huge thank you to the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Governor Kathy Hochul and Senator Michelle Hinchey for their ongoing commitment to supporting healthy, local food systems. As Senator Hinchey said, “By expanding farm-to-school partnerships, we’re creating a clear win-win that supports our kids and delivers economic development opportunities for New York farmers.” 💚👩‍🌾👨‍🌾

This grant will enable us to connect students with local agriculture, foster a love for fresh, nutritious food, and strengthen our farming community. We’re excited to continue our mission of cultivating a sustainable, just food system for all!
