We offer boarding for rabbits & guinea pigs In Poulsbo, WA

07/16/2024

It is with a heavy heart that I want to let everyone know that the founder of Rabbit Meadows, Sandi Ackerman, passed away on Friday, July 12th, 2024. Sandi was 81 years old.

Sandi spent over 35 years saving animals. Sandi started one of the first rabbit rescue organizations in the US and remained devoted to animals to the very end.

Sandi loved her animal friends and worked tirelessly to prevent their suffering and cruelty.

I hope that in Sandi's memory, you all will continue her mission of helping by spaying/neutering your animals, donating/volunteering your time to the rescues out there and treating all animals with love and respect.

On a personal note, i had volunteered with Sandi for almost 10 years. I never once saw her put her own needs first. I saw her bring back animals on the brink of death and turn them into loving pets willing to trust again. I never once saw her take a day off or go on vacation. Her life was devoted to animals and I'm sure she lost some friends in the process. At the end of her life, I hope she felt good about all her success stories and all the lives (animal and human) whose lives she impacted - Jessica Mango

Give your furry friends an extra "cookie" today in Sandi's memory.

Rabbit Meadows has been rescuing rabbits & other small critters for 35 years now, and we've passed along the Rainbow Bridge poem countless times, always without an author's name. It's wonderful to finally learn who wrote this amazing poem. Edna Clyne-Rekny can now be added as the author.🥰

https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/author-of-rainbow-bridge-poem-about-animal-heaven-was-finally-found-and-was-clueless-about-its-fame/?utm_campaign=newsletters&utm_medium=weekly_mailout&utm_source=03-03-2023

Art historian and cat owner Paul Koudounaris managed to turn up the original poet decades after Rainbow Bridge became famous.

AUBURN HUMANE SOCIETY needs to place these two rabbits. "We have two bonded bunnies who are looking for rescue. They are spayed and neutered. The male had to have one of his legs amputated and is doing very well. They’re super cute and friendly. They absolutely love their veggies. "

GOT IT COVERED! THANK YOU!
I've agreed to take "Louise" a rather aggressive rabbit, from Wenatchee Humane Society. She's giving her caretakers a lot of grief and they're not able to provide her with enough care. They can transport her to Seattle (2/24/22) as far as Goodwill on Lane St or perhaps further south around the airport. She's looking to meet up on Thursday evening around 8:30pm or Friday morning around 8:30am.

If someone can take her from there and bring her down to Gig Harbor (Rabbit Haven's Barn) I could meet there and take her the rest of the way to Rabbit Meadows in Poulsbo.

If someone is able to help would you please message me. Thanks much,
UPDATE: Someone has messaged me saying they can take from Tacoma to meet me. Any takers from Seattle down to Tacoma (instead of Gig Harbor) Friday pm?

Rabbit Haven, Gig Harbor WA is asking all of our followers for help. This weekend Kitsap Humane Society is giving away free bunnies, goats and birds. These animals have not been spayed or neutered.

They are calling it A Not-So-Creepy Critters Adoption Event. This event will lead to animals ending up on dinner plates, harmed or used as breeding stock. This is not a humane event and should not be supported by a Humane Society.

This is not the first time they have shown a deep disregard for these animals, they have a long history of this type of behavior. They have a history of holding these "SPECIAL EVENTS".

Many rescues, vets and other organizations have offered to help. The offers to help fall on deaf ears and these events continue to happen.

Please contact them and tell them to cancel this event. If you support them consider moving your financial help to rescues who will do the very best for the animals in their care. Call the press and let them know you do not support these events. Write to the national Humane Society and complain. We must take action to save animals lives.

This year (since COVID's eased up) we've received numerous calls for people looking to board their guinea pigs while on vacation. Are any of you in the Seattle area, with piggys doing any boarding? If so, I'd love to pass your contact info to them.

We've actually had a couple of people drive all the way over to Poulsbo, but that's a loooooooong drive.
