Have you ever noticed your pet chewing on things?

Foreign bodies are very common in younger pets. Many ask what is a foreign body, it is a gastrointestinal blockage due from eating something that can not appropriately pass through the GI tract. Examples: Socks, Yarn, Chew Toys, Raw Hides.
If you see your pet eat something that you know they shouldn't be quick to stop them. If you know that they have ate something then bring them to the vet immediately.

Happy Halloween to our furry friends! It’s always a good idea to make sure your pet has their ID tags, as it is very easy for a pet to get spooked and end up lost. Make sure to keep candy/chocolate out of the reach of your pets as it is very toxic for pets. If your pet happens to ingest any human treats, please contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. Today is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day. Most bags of pet food will have a weight chart on the back. You’ll want to make sure you’re feeding for the desired weight, not their current weight. Don’t know how much your pet should weigh for their age and breed? Ask your veterinarian at your annual visit!
Get your babies some fun exercise, go for a walk or a hike, play fetch, or even take them swimming. If your pet is having trouble losing weight, it could also be a medical issue. Talk to the vet and see what their recommendations would be.

With Summer having started, we want to make sure that we keep our precious fur babies out of the heat as much as possible. Dogs cannot control their body temperature by sweating as humans do since they only have a small number of sweat glands in their pawpads. Their primary way of regulating body temperature is by panting. Dogs suffering from heatstroke can have elevated breathing rates, dry or sticky gums, abnormal gum color, bruising in the gums, and may appear lethargic or disoriented, and can have seizures. Make sure if your pet is outside for an extended amount of time they have constant access to water and shade, and make sure to keep an eye on them.
