Just another day on the farm…….
Those straight line winds from last night pulled down a portion of a large tree near our layer and meat chicken areas, knocking down a post, breaking a fence board, and pulling down a good portion of our hawk netting. Whoever developed and sold these Bradford Pears with no central support trunk should be put in jail. Just to clarify-we didn’t plant these. They were here we were purchased the farm in 2015.

One of our favorite things to do is to educate people where their food comes from and the process to get their food to their plate. It is one of the main reasons we decided to open up the farm to the public. Our two main ways of doing this are field trips and summer camps.
We wanted to announce to all our local customers that we will be selling some selected Fall and holiday scent goat milk candles and essential oil lotions at Powers Family Farm store beginning September 23rd. More information is located at the shared post below. We absolutely love everything that Powers Family Farm does and we always try and support like minded farmers in our area.

It’s that time of year again!! 🎃🎃🎃
We are so excited for the pumpkin patch season this year! We have been working around the clock getting the farm ready and adding new experiences that we did not have last year. This year we have a new barn for the petting zoo plus a few new animals. We have a 2-3 Acre corn maze. And we have also added a slide for the kiddos.
A new tradition we are starting this year is every Friday we are going to have a family movie night. A time where you can bring your family get some popcorn and drinks and watch a family friendly Halloween movie on the outdoor projector. During this night there will also be a campfire and s’more’s. Saturdays and Sundays will be our full operation days, with all of the activities available to do.
We currently still have openings for field trips. We have also opened up the calendar for birthday parties. If you are interested in either one of these please contact Kendall at 770-733-2032.
Opening weekend will be September 23rd. That is a Friday and for the very first movie night we are going to be playing Hocus Pocus! We will be open until October 31 which is when we will do our tractor treating like we did last year.

Last chance to place a preorder for our pasture raised, organically fed chicken cuts before we take them to processing at a USDA certified processor on Wed July 27th. Specifically if you are interested in ordering whole birds, we have to have a count prior to processing. We will have a very limited amount of cuts available to purchase on a first come first serve basis once we fill all our preorders and will post at that time what is available. Our Freedom Rangers grow out to 10 weeks (instead of the 4-6 weeks from commercial farms) and live a life on fresh grass, lots of sunshine and fresh air. We will only have 1 more batch for 2022 which will be processed mid October. You will truly taste the difference in our meat. They come vacuum sealed and can choose fresh or frozen. We all are feeling the effects of the outrageous price increase of our groceries & supplies, especially here at Faith of a Mustard Seed Farm, LLC. Just for comparison last year our organic, soy free layer & broiler feed was about $30 for a 50 lb bag, a bit higher for other brands. Now it’s up to $38-$50/per bag depending on the brand. We try everything possible to keep our wonderful products reasonably priced without letting our quality suffer. This year we increased our organic, pasture raised egg prices to $6.50/dozen(0.50 increase) but even with this we don’t make a profit. Now compare to the store bought brands (organic, pasture raised, & the “cage free” eggs) which range from $7.29-$8/dozen, and store bought are usually at least 30 days old when you get them from the stores compared to our fresh, collected daily eggs. These commercial farms won’t miss you as a customer or feel the effects of losing 1 or 2 customers, but us small, local family farms sure do! And you know with our products exactly how much we love our animals & focus on animal husbandry and ensuring they have the best possible life! So if you are in the market for some delicious, organic, pasture raised eggs, skip the store and buy direct from your local farms(hopefully us) we promise you will taste the difference.

The second batch of freedom rangers have arrived at Faith of a Mustard Seed Farm, LLC and they are doing awesome so far. In just a few short weeks these guys will be big enough to put out in their pasture area where they will grow out on lots of fresh grass, bugs, sunshine and organic feed. All about living their best life. We are taking pre-orders now and, believe me, our delicious pasture raised organic chicken sells out fast. Join me in wishing our precious Baby a very happy 5th birthday. The only goat born at Faith of a Mustard Seed Farm, LLC. Sadly we lost her amazing mom, Rosie just a few days after she gave birth to baby. We miss her every day but know she would be so proud of her precious baby girl.
This is the situation. A prayer is answered, a drought is interrupted and this is what it looks like. This is the part of ranching that isn’t glamorous. They don’t put the cowboy in a scotch cap and coveralls in a tractor digging deep paths, or scooping half-frozen new born calves out of a snowbank. They don’t put that on a postcard to sell you in the gift shop. It doesn’t make a beautiful oil painting, but so often out here there’s more to the drama than a pretty sunset. Without the rain and the snow, we have no grass. Without the grass, we sell the whole herd. Without the herd, the story changes. That doesn’t make a good inspirational quote. But it’s reality. This spring storm during the height of calving is the definition of gratefulness and fear walking hand in hand as we take another loop around the pasture, unroll another bale, make sure we have the barn and the milk replacer and the extra fuel and the tractor ready to fend off the worst of it the best we can.
But the weather up here, no matter how extreme, is never unexpected. We’re never surprised, we know how to batten down the hatches. And we know the stakes. We keep them tucked up under our hats or in the pocket of our shirts, the one under the jacket and the wool vest and the winter coat, the one closest to the hearts we carry out into the blinding, whipping wind knowing when we get through this, the white will make the grass grow greener and that will be something to put on your postcard. That will be your inspirational quote.
