Good morning Central Oregon! I’m offering a new service! I’m calling it “Cold Hose Massage” w/ extras. I am a local equine massage therapist as well as a few other specialties. 1 of my and my horses favorite weekly indulgence/therapy is her Cold Hose Massage.

What this in tells is a full body massage w/ Nature's Rein amazing CBD and pine tare shampoo this helps break up any dirt that causes friction as well as starts the relaxing process, then I top it off with their Re-Leaf Liniment Spray and continue to massage every inch of them (excluding ears forward) before I rinse I do a thin layer of Redmond Equine poultice covering hamstrings, stifles,hocks and lumbar. That all sits for roughly 5 minutes, I then rinse and finish up with a final spray of the liniment spray and reapply the poultice to the same spots to draw out anymore inflammation.

We love it so much that I’ve decided to offer it as a service to my clients and future clients. Only prerequisite is- horse must be ok with water and preferably ok w/ cross ties.

The purpose of this is a massage not a bath- I will not be “washing” them this is to relieve soreness, promote blood flow, relieve anxiety and make them feel amazingly important!

You can haul to me R bar S Ranch where I have heated water- I like to use luke warm water, Elvira seems to like it that way as well.

I will come to you as well! Especially if you have a couple horses you want done!

You can put in all the hours. You can have the sponsors. You can have the best support team cheering you on and helping you get there. You can have God on your team. You can have the best tack, supplements, feed, trailer and truck...

But if your horse isn't healthy, or if they're in pain, none of those things can cover it up. "You can't outtrain pain," as the trainers say. And as much as these horses give us, there's no reason not to make sure you have the best vets in the game on your horses' side so that you can keep them safe and healthy. I'm blessed to have Signature Equine Hospital in my corner. They know my horses, their team genuinely cares and they understand the needs of our very special and sometimes very spicy barrel horses.

Winter may have come later than expected, but it certainly has arrived! With the arrival of colder weather, here are some tips to help our equine friends out in the elements.

• Horses require an increase in calorie intake of 15-20% for every 10-degree drop in temperature below 30*F. Hay, rather than grain is best to accomplish this to increase fermentation and warmth within the colon.

• Horses have a tendency to drink less in the winter when the water is cold and research has shown that horses will drink more if the water is warmed to 46-65*F. Providing heated water sources can help ward off life-threatening complications such as impaction colic.

• To blanket or not to blanket is a very horse-dependent question and often depends on the amount of precipitation expected. Horses with an adequate coat have exceptional insulation capacity when the coat is not wet or slicked down. If precipitation is expected, consider blanketing or providing access to additional shelter to allow them to dry off.
