I know I've spoken on it before here, but a comment elsewhere got my hackles up a bit regarding pricing on horses.
Are mine cheap? NO! And they won't be... let me tell you why...
● Where we live is expensive. Our hay is excellent quality but pricey, and we are on dry lot so hay feed 365 twice a day.
● These horses get regular care, feet, teeth floated yearly starting at 2 yrs old, deworming on rotation, vaccines, and any veterinary care needed. Our vets are pricey too.
● I register all my stock with ApHC and pay for FPD or GAP eligibility at registration time. I've also done DNA on some at time of registry. Do I HAVE to do this? No, but I place value on their eligibility and want that documentation to be noted on their papers! Plus, my support of the programs contributes to the mother ship staying afloat, which we need for the documentation of our foundation horses.
● DNA testing is done on ALL the horses... because I've lost thousands of dollars taking a chance on a well bred horse for my program just to discover it wasn't genetically clean, then I have to place it with full disclosure. 😞
● I'm pricing higher because I VALUE what I'm breeding! These FA horses are special and I'm but one of many breeders working on the preservation of the by-blood Appaloosa. They are conformationally correct, sound minded and pretty!
And we can eliminate tire kickers.
● I handle my horses regularly. My time needs to be worth something.
●Promoting them in events is expensive too, but we try.

This post isn't intended to offend or attack anyone.
It's a simple explanation as to why DSA horses or horses that I've acquired from other programs are marketed at these price points.
I'm proud of my program. I'm not made of money, but the horses never go without, because to me, they are worth it!

Perfect day to ride with my sweet friend Darcy Bean Hollander.
Buffy is just coming back into work this year from mommy hood, which she excels at. She has been perfect. Just a steady good girl.
My goals are to show her in OTAHC"s Ranch classes in April and our FPD classes + Ranch in May. I have a lot of work to do, I think she'll be fine. 😊🤞

Dreammakers Windsong & Apaches Touches Sky (Mocha) were bred to Rivendells Tonitrus (Toni) last year. We are excited to see these foals as they should both be loudly colored and Black or bay based and both are 100% FPD eligible.
This will be a first foal for Mocha and first Get produced by Toni. 🙏❤

Yesterday was dental day for our 2 year olds with Dr. Jessie Heinrick.
The kids were fantastic and we love getting early floats done so we can stay ahead of any crazy maloclusions forming and it's a positive experience for them.
❤❤❤ STJ Coyote War Chief aka Robbie was a Rockstar. This young stallion has the best brain... watch for him in the breeding shed in 2024.
DSA Ulrich Kauni & DSA Kyella May prove why we breed these foundation lines and were stellar patients.
Kyella is going to be that horse we can take anywhere and put anyone on, she's so rock solid and calmly takes every new experience in stride. 🥰

Early maintenance sets them up for early success!!! Get those dentals done before they start in the bridle! 😉

Yesterday the students from Magic Legacy Riding Academy in Bend came out for a Horsemanship lesson about foals.
We educated about Foundation bred Appaloosas, some genetics, and how to begin halter training with babies.
This is a wonderful group of kids! ❤

Spicy, Baldur, & Dandy were very accommodating to scratches and pets. 🦄 Mommas Buffy, Elsa, and Sophie were stellar in sharing their babies and even got some love too.
I love my kind girls! 🥰

Spicy was the kids pick for the MLRA mascot! Maybe they can pool their resources. 😂

MLRA is highly recommended for all levels of horsemanship from introductory to advanced hands on. Owner/Instructor Lisa Spees Ellefson is the best teacher I know. ❤

I worked today with the ever awesome Dr. Jessie Heinrick doing dental floats.
3 were first time floats and 4 maintenance floats.
My Windsong and Mocha were maintenance and I'm thrilled with how good they looked compared to last year. No crazy maloclusions, just sharp enamel points but no BAD carnage from those. That's why I like yearly, so we stay ahead of these issues. 😉
Windsong is 15 this year, Mocha is 5... and she popped out wolf teeth between last year and this year. 😳 We removed them to avoid bit interference.
