This season we have been hard at work thinning the workload at the farm. As painful as that has been at times, I’m grateful it has enabled us to slow down a bit, try new hobbies, and spend some quality time together.
It was a gorgeous day for paddle boarding! We all did great for first-timers!💚

We are letting go of a few farm items.

UPDATE: SOLD🙃

First up for grabs is a small coop that’ll house 6 hens. It is all tidied up and ready for its new home! The roof of the run portion needs a new piece of tin as you can see in the pictures. Besides that, the coop is in great condition.

What do you do when you discover there just may be an entire 110yo wooden wall hiding under all the layers in your bedroom you’re remodeling?
Duh, find a nurse to cover your shift at work for the day and get to digging through the 50 layers of wall.

Wednesday pulled at our 💚 strings from the very beginning. When she entered the world as #7 of the litter born at 7:55am
on Friday, October 13th, she was a tad slow to get that first breath. As though that wasn’t enough to worry about…her cord would not clot off so Raegan had to provide some one on one care to little Wednesday while I was busy soothing Meadow as she delivered several more babies.🩷🩷
Though she got our heart rates up, she is a perfect healthy pup.

Initially she far outweighed her other siblings. At current, the boys are catching up to her🥰

Day 61!!!!!

Meadow’s temp is holding steady in the 100 degree range, but her urge to nest is growing just like her sweet little tummy.💜
We are grateful this is Fall Break for the kiddos cause poor Cullen was up half the night with Meadow trying to dig holes, excuse me, I mean nest in his room.🥰
Sweet momma is trying to prepare for the arrival of her little angels!🩷🐾🐶
On the agenda for today:
1. Shave Meadow’s belly and backside.
2. Finish up this darn porch before puppies arrive!😵‍💫

Anyone else out there feel like they are always working trying to conquer that never-ending to-do list?

Day 59!!!!

A week before the official due date we begin taking Meadow’s temperature daily and record it in our nifty notebook🐾.
She’s been 99.9 degrees every morning so far.
We are eagerly watching and waiting for that one degree drop in her temp signifying pups within 12-24hours!!!🐶🐶🐾🐾

Day 58!!!!

Meadow has officially made it to full-term!🎉 Though we are pretty sure she still has a few days before it’s delivery day….. she could have the babies any time now♥️🧡💜💙💛💚🩶🤍🤎🩷🩵

Her due date is this Saturday, 10-14

Anyone want to guess what day she’ll deliver on!?

We’ve been busy little bees prepping for the upcoming litter. Cullen helped me get our Puppy Central notebook filled and ready to go! (There’s a lot of record keeping to do when whelping a litter of pups)

We’ve decided to let go of some equipment we no longer use.
Item #1 our original chick brooder.

Homemade chick brooder up for grabs!
Homemade so she’s solid. Though she may need a little tweaking to the waste tray/drawer to make it pull smoother. We preferred taking the drawer out and lining the space with newspaper to catch waste and make for easy cleaning.
The floor is made of hardware cloth allowing waste to fall through to catch tray. This piece is on 4 heavy casters for easy moving. Comes with two cutouts for storage space. We have used both heating lamps and ecoglows with this piece to provide the proper temp for littles.

While Momma Meadow has been busy growing a litter of perfect pups, Papa Sam has been busy……. Um, napping.🤣 This sweet boy cracks me up with all his funny sleeping positions.
We call this one Count Samula.

Time has absolutely flown by!

Our beautiful Meadow is nearing the end of her second pregnancy. (October 14th is the official due date for those who want to follow along)
We made a few changes with this pregnancy. With her first pregnancy we used supplements AFTER the delivery to assist with milk production and calcium needs. We also utilized their formula to supplement the pups.
We were so impressed with the results we decided to add prenatal vitamins to our regimen. The results have been fabulous! Meadow has had a smooth pregnancy thus far. Thankfully her pica has been almost nonexistent this pregnancy versus last pregnancy she was an absolute maniac for chicken poop🤦🏻‍♀️
Moral of the story…. Breeders Edge products are worth the investment!

Over the past couple months we’ve done some soul searching in regards to everything Melhorn Manor & Farm. It was then we became aware we’ve gotten off track with our Silkie Breeding program. We admittedly got a little distracted by all the cute fluffy faces. Then, Silkie chicken math hit! 🤣 We’ve made great progress in the two months after the intervention. 1. We have now found perfect homes for the 10 Silkies we rehomed. 2. We are currently remodeling Chateau de Silkie to better meet our needs. 3. As we look forward to 2023, we wanted to look at everything we have accomplished in 2022. Living on a farm, getting lost in the daily grind, it can be easy to miss the progress we are making! Compared to how we entered 2022, WOAH!! We have grown!! We have grown as individuals, farmers, business owners, a business, and as a family!! What a blessing to be living this adventure! We hope you enjoy this recap of 2022! We can’t wait to see what we can create in 2023!
