It's still Veterinary Dental Health month and today we are highlighting some Veterinary Oral Health Council approved products!

These products have been scientifically tested and proven to meet the highest standards for maintaining your pet’s oral health.

πŸ’‘ Why VOHC-Approved Products?
βœ”οΈ They’re proven to reduce plaque and tartar build-up
βœ”οΈ They help fight bad breath
βœ”οΈ They improve gum health and prevent tooth loss
βœ”οΈ Safe, effective, and vet-recommended!

- Hill's Science diet t/d: This is a prescription diet that is proven to fight the production of plaque and tartar. Available in canine and feline formulas. Royal Canin and Purina also have VOHC approved diets.

- Greenies dental treats: An edible chew treat that is available in canine and feline forms. Just one chew a day keeps the veterinarian away! You can find these at just about any pet store. Comes in a variety of flavors for your picky pets.

- American Dental Association approved toothbrushes: You can use an ADA approved human toothbrush to brush your pets' teeth! Daily brushing is the best way to curb plaque and bad breath. You can either use an VOHC approved enzymatic toothpaste, or no toothpaste at all when you brush their teeth. Do not use human toothpaste!

- Many more! 🦷🐢🐱

πŸ’¬ Stop by our clinic or give us a call to learn more about these approved products and how they can help keep your pet’s smile shining bright!

Did you know that February is National Pet Dental Health Month?! 🦷 🦷 🦷 🦷

-Dental health is an often overlooked, but important part of your best friend's overall well-being! Poor dental health can lead to periodontal disease, which can damage gums, teeth, and even the bones in the jaw that support the teeth. In severe cases, bacteria from the mouth can spread to other parts of the body!

-80-90% of dogs over the age of 3 have at least some level of periodontal disease, along with 66% of cats. Cats can also develop a painful condition in which the body resorbs teeth roots, called resorptive lesions. 🐱

-Common symptoms of periodontal disease and resorptive lesions are mouth pain, lowered appetite, bleeding gums, and especially foul breath. 😬

-You can help fight off tarter build-up with daily brushing (using a pet-safe toothpaste), dental chews, and other products. Visit the Veterinary Oral Health Council for a list of recommended dental products! https://vohc.org/ πŸͺ₯🦷

-If your veterinarian recommends a dental cleaning for your pet, give us a call or a text at 614-436-9922 to schedule one today! πŸ’πŸ¦·πŸ’Ž

Some things to keep in mind as you take your dogs outside in the sub zero temperatures this week:

- Sharp ice can cut paws 🐾
- Snow can clump between paw pads and cause injuries
- Frostbite is dangerous and can happen quickly to bare feet ❄️
- Ice can cause loss of traction which can lead to slips, falls, sprains, and strains
- Ice melts and other chemicals may harm your friends' feet

To help keep these dangers at bay you can try booties, examine and wipe paws as you go back inside, shovel walk ways for your pets, and take shorter walks. πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ

Stay warm, everyone!! 🧣🧀
