We are facing a statewide outbreak of West Nile Virus. There have been several positive cases over the last 2 weeks in the Powell/Lovell area. We highly recommend that you vaccinate your horses right away if they have not been vaccinated. We also recommend that you boost your horses if the previous vaccination was over 6 months ago.

We are so excited to put our new equine surgery stall to use! Sandman visited us this week for radiographs and casting. With our new surgery stall we now have the ability to let our equine patients have surgery and recover in a warm and safe stall. We are so excited for our new addition!

Hello everyone! This is moving week for us and we are very busy getting set up at the new place. We will be closed Thursday and Friday for moving, Please call ahead if you need something and leave a message if your call is not answered, we will get back to you as quickly as possible. Greetings, TNR committee! Dr. Acker spayed one cat and neutered two last Thursday. Although, as Rebecca told us at the April meeting, they do not usually vaccinate strays for rabies or feline leukemia, these three all had an upper respiratory infection, which (if I understood correctly) increases the chance of rabies and other diseases. Out of concern for the colony and the community, Doc gave each a three year rabies and a feline leukemia vaccination , along with antibiotics for the URI. He said all three did well with the surgery , and all have been returned to their colony.

Sara, in Dr. Acker’s office, has scheduled us for another three TNRs on Wednesday, May 5th, and the cats for that date have been identified. We will be reaching out for help locating, trapping and transporting strays as we move forward.

Thanks to the generosity of Doc Acker, and our own Rebecca Stevens Acker, we will be able to TNR 45+ cats, helping to reduce the stray population in the Basin, and improve the lives of the felines. Many, many thanks to the Ackers!
