Hello, everyone. Santa recently asked us to send him some reinforcements to get ready for Christmas (and to help him with post-delivery activities). So, the Powell Petsmart adoption center will be closed temporarily starting on Thursday, Dec. 21 through January 1, 2024. The adoption center will reopen on January 2, 2024.

Merry Christmas!

Miss Poppy has been with us for several months. One of our volunteers has sponsored her adoption fee. Poppy is very bright, loving, and playful. None of us are perfect: Poppy doesn’t like other cats; she also does not like dogs. She needs to be the only pet in the home.

In our experience, Poppy’s color pattern is the type that gets adopted the least. So we need your help finding an adopter. Please share.

Would you please consider giving Poppy her forever home?

Good morning, friends. Happy Caturday.

We have some lovely cats available for adoption. To get started, you can either submit an online application for a generic cat (which would allow you to adopt any available cat, if the shelter approves your application). Or, DM us for our hours of operation. We rely 100% on volunteers to staff our adoption center.

Online applications are at the following website:
https://www.fccanimals.org/

Hi, friends! We have a few adoptable cats and a kitten available. We totally forgot to make an International Cat Day post, which was on August 8 🫢. Every day is cat day to us though 🤭

Okay, so we need your help. Poppy is a very intelligent and personable cat. She’s playful. So why hasn’t she been adopted? Well, she just doesn’t like other cats or dogs. So, she needs to be the only pet in the house. A volunteer has sponsored her adoption fee and we’ll even buy a cat carrier for her. Please share. Poppy has been with us for months. She likes to pick at shoes so she might pick at carpet. We value transparency and we want to ensure a good fit with an adopter.

Good morning, friends. We have four lovely cats available for adoption.

Kora is a manx (no tail). Manx cats would do best where their litter box is located on tile or another hard surface. She’s extremely sensitive, so she needs to be indoors 24/7. She loves kittens, so she’d be a wonderful match with Vanessa.

Vanessa is a beautiful black kitten.

Valerie is a petite gray adult cat.

Poppy’s adoption fee has been sponsored. She hates dogs and other cats. She needs to be the only pet. She’s very smart and sweet (to people). She’d be a perfect dorm or student apartment pet.

We are half-way through 2023! Where did this year go? Time seems to be flying by and standing still at the exact same time. We always prepare our shelter stats based on a fiscal year for accounting and bookkeeping purposes, but we rarely post them on social media. In an effort to maintain transparency (and bring you in on the successes and challenges our little shelter experiences), we are posting it for your information. The 2022-2023 fiscal year was a hard year, but we made the best of it! We had fewer intakes than last year, but most pets stayed with us increased amounts of time. We have 20 dog kennels, plus 8 temporary outside dog runs and 30 cat kennels that are portalled into 16 cat kennels. Increased lengths of stay require creative housing and we have become masters at it. We also had a higher percentage of adoptions, a higher percentage of pets reunited with family, nearly 25% more pets were fixed and we vaccinated 1,300+ pets from the community! Our Critter Cupboard continued to provide families in need. While our community needs are changing, we are too! Stay tuned and watch us grow!
Thank you to everyone who has supported us! We are proud to have you as part of our pack!
As always, our door is always open, our shelter stats and financials are always posted on the office cabinet wall and we welcome visitors Stop by for a visit and just check things out!

Good morning and happy Caturday, friends. We are very much in need of volunteers. We are seeking people who can commit to 1-2 hours a month, at least. Our biggest needs are Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays. We allow minors to volunteer aged 15+, with parental permission. We ask volunteers to use Google Calendar; show up on time (or notify the volunteer team that they’re late); and to communicate effectively with visitors. Duties include cleaning and caring for the cats.

We ask that volunteers commit to at least 4 months.

Walle, pictured, has no eyes. He was a former shelter cat. Without volunteers, he would not be alive today.

Hi, friends. We’re always recruiting new volunteers. We have an urgent need for volunteers for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Ash, pictured below, is an adorable kitty who is available for adoption. We rely 100% on volunteers to staff our adoption center. Minors are welcome (with parents’ permission). We ask that volunteers be able to use Google Calendar and have at least some basic customer service skills. Volunteers are expected to show up on time, but please note that volunteers set their own schedule.

Even one hour a week or every other week is very helpful. DM for more information.

Former Campbell County Animal Shelter cat, Walle, is blind and he is alive today solely because of the hard work of a volunteer foster and the wonderful team at the shelter. Walle’s blind and he asked us to type this post for him. We’re critically low on volunteers. As the school fall semester approaches, our volunteers are unable to volunteer quite as much as before. We desperately need volunteers for weekends. Even just one hour once a month is helpful. Volunteers must be able to use Google calendar and must have good communication skills. DM for more info.

Good morning, friends. Tomorrow is the last day of National Pet Adoption Week. We have limited hours this weekend, but you are always able to submit an application to adopt online at fccanimals.org or DM and request an appointment.

We have lots of adoptable cuties.

We are also always looking for new volunteers. We have a wonderful team but all of them have full-time jobs, multiple jobs, class schedules, or other commitments and we are not able to provide as much coverage as we would like.

We have a quick training program and solid processes for process excellence.

Lastly, we are no longer accepting short-term volunteers who are seeking only minimal hours to satisfy TN Promise or UT Promise. People who commit to long-term volunteering may claim volunteer hours for TN Promise or UT Promise.

Luna says that she would be a lot happier if we had more weekend volunteers. Especially on Sundays.

Volunteers must be 18 or older; or have a parent’s permission to volunteer. Volunteers must be able to use Google calendar and show up on time or notify our team that they cannot make a scheduled shift.

We’re no longer accepting short-term volunteers solely for the purpose of satisfying TN Promise hour requirements. We’re looking for long-term volunteers only.

DM to get more info.

Good morning! We have some adorable, beautiful, friendly cats and kittens available for adoption.

Luna and Nova are mom and son, respectively. We’d love to see them adopted together. Luna’s adoption fee has been sponsored, if someone adopts her and her son together and agrees to keep them indoors 24/7.

Poppy is full of personality and she loves people. She would do well indoors 24/7, in a house with no other pets and no carpet. She loves to pick at shoes, so we think that she might pick at carpet. Poppy’s adoption fee will be covered.

All of our team members at the adoption center are volunteers, most of whom have full-time jobs and family commitments. We have a wonderful team, but we’re short on volunteers, just like virtually all shelters nationwide.

To adopt:
1) fill out an application online at https://www.fccanimals.org/ alternatively, you can submit an application online.

2) pay the adoption fee

3) have a cat carrier with you

4) meet other requirements (agree to not declaw; if you rent, your landlord must certify that you are eligible for a pet; and if you have cats or dogs currently, your vet must certify that your current pets are spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations or medically exempt).

These babies are still at Petsmart. Luna is Nova’s mother. If you’re interested in watching a lifelong, unbreakable love, you can adopt momma and baby together!

Kora is lonely. Her babies got adopted. She’s ready for her forever home. Kora has become a staff favorite. She’s coming out of her shell.

Poppy has a personality the size of Texas. She also dislikes dogs and cats, so she needs to be the only pet in the house. She likes to pick at shoes, so we think that she’ll do best in a home without carpet. She’s super smart and sweet. Unless you’re another cat or a dog 😂

Good morning and Happy Father’s Day to the dads out there.

We have very limited hours today. We hope that you’re able to spend time with loved ones today.

We have some real cuties available for adoption. Kittens are $100/each and adults (1-5 years) are $75. Mature cats (more than 5 years) are $50. The money goes to a nonprofit organization. More on that below.

Requirements for adoption:

1) Submit an application and agree to our terms and conditions. You can apply in person or online (online expedites things, but please provide us with 24 hours to respond to you). https://www.fccanimals.org/

2) Pay the fee.

3) You must have a cat carrier and place the cat in the carrier before our staff members are allowed to release custody of the cat.

4) If you have current cats or dogs, or both, you must provide paperwork or our staff will call your vet to verify that your pets are spayed or neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations.

5) If you rent, our staff must speak with your landlord directly via phone to verify that you are eligible to have a pet.

Friends of Campbell County is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) entity that operates the Campbell County Animal Shelter. We have adoptable cats and dogs at the main shelter in Jacksboro. We have satellite cat-adoption locations at Petsense in Jacksboro; and Petsmart in Powell (Knoxville) on Emory Road.

The Powell Petsmart adoption center is staffed 100% by volunteers.

We have some beautiful, sweet, adoptable cats available! Poppy is sweet and has been here several weeks. She needs to go to a home where there are no pets except her. She loves people, including children.

Cinders and Luna are buddies.

Kora needs someone who is very loving and attentive. All of her babies have been adopted and she is here by herself 🥺

Last year, two of our volunteers went to San Antonio totally not just to meet Bella, the Alamo cat 😉. Okay, so maybe that’s why. Tennessee became the Volunteer State because of the Alamo. Friends of Campbell County, Tennessee Animals needs volunteers.

You can vote at Powell Petsmart Cat Adoption Center or at the Campbell County Animal Shelter.

If you want to join an amazing team of caring people, please read below. Just one or two hours a month helps a ton!

Below are some FAQs. DM for more info.

Volunteer FAQs

* How old does a volunteer need to be?
* Generally, people who are 16-17 may volunteer by themselves if a parent or legal guardian attends the first volunteer shift and also signs permission paperwork. The 16-17-year-old person may volunteer by themselves after the first session.

* What do volunteers do?
* Play with (socialize and care for) kittens and cats;
* Clean (scoop litter, clean up messes, etc.);
* Facilitate members of the public visiting kittens and cats;
* Facilitate adoptions;
* Communicate with the volunteer team via Facebook messenger (in a private group chat)

* When is the adoption center open?
* The adoption center is accessible during Petsmart’s business hours.
* Volunteers may choose to volunteer during Petsmart’s business hours.
* The adoption center is only open to the public when a volunteer is present.

* How often do volunteers “work” a shift?
* That is up to each volunteer. We ask that volunteers sign up for shifts in advance. Each shift is 1 hour or longer.
* Some volunteers sign up for one hour per week. Others volunteer much more. We’re very flexible and we appreciate all of our volunteers.
* We ask volunteers to sign up for a schedule that they can reasonably commit to. We understand that special events might arise and we are very flexible.
* Volunteers must show up on time (running a little late is understandable and totally fine). If someone will be later than 15 minutes, we ask that the volunteer communicate with the volunteer team to let them know.

* Do voluntary hours count towards TN Promise?
* Yes. The Friends of Campbell County Animals organization is a nonprofit organization.
* If you want to volunteer longer than TN Promise minimum requirements, we will provide you with training.
* If you only want the minimum required hours, we don’t train you but that means that you can still volunteer but alongside another regular volunteer.

* What if I only wanted to volunteer for 8 hours to fulfill my TN Promise requirements?
* We welcome TN Promise students. We only train longterm volunteers. If you only need 8 hours, there no need to take training. Please let me know and we will connect you with volunteers so you can volunteer when they do. We support many TN Promise volunteers.

* Long-term volunteers: What do I need to do to get started?
* Schedule a 1-hour volunteer shift so that you can get trained on the adoption center’s processes.
* We prefer that folks use Facebook Messenger to communicate with the volunteer team.
* We prefer that volunteers maintain a Google account so that they may utilize a Google calendar to schedule their shifts.
