All professionals, no matter their line of work, need a support system. Since 1884, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association has provided that necessary function to its members and the entire community. To accomplish this goal, the OVMA focuses on lifelong learning, stewardship, compassion, and community in veterinary medicine. The OVMA strives to be a trusted and valued source of information, not

only for veterinarians, but government bodies, academic institutions, and the general public. We aim to stay current on advances in technology, research findings, recalls, new products, and any other developments that affect veterinarians, their clients, and their patients. We represent more than 2,400 veterinarians in a variety of fields and specialties, working in both urban centers and rural communities. We know that we can best accomplish what's necessary by joining together, and together, we share best practices, support one another, and impact the future of veterinary medicine.

Scientists have warned that limited surveillance could weaken the U.S.' ability to respond to further human spread.

The U.S. bird-flu outbreak in dairy cattle is much larger than official figures suggest due to farmers' reluctance to test their animals and risk the economic consequences of a positive result, according to Reuters interviews with dairy experts, veterinarians, and farmers in six states with known ca...

Fruit bats are known to gorge on fruit, which jacks their blood sugar. But somehow, it doesn’t cause them any harm. Within half an hour of a fruit feast, the bat's sugar levels are back down to where they started—which has scientists wondering: How could this information be used to help humans with diabetes?

Bats are able to consume an extraordinary amount of sugar with no ill effects. Scientists are trying to learn more about how bats do it — and whether humans can learn from their sugar response.
