2024 US Open is done!

Over 1000 ( 😮 ) dogs competing over 5 days!

Marathon event but it’s so professionally run! Bravo!

Bodhi deserves his own post as he blew me away this week. He is a great traveler and loves these events. Some runs he got a bit over the top but he got to run in two(!!) finals. He ran in the big ring with music and loud speaker and was a champ!

I cannot wait to see how this brilliant young boy will develop. Bodhi, I promise I will work hard to be the best handler for you (and to start running sprint training 😝)

Bodhi US Open:

💙 18th out of 250+, 20” dogs Speedstakes semi finals

💙 10th out of 230+, 20” dogs

💙 9th out of 200+, 20” dogs Master series Agility last chance

💙 19th out of 46, 20” dogs Biathlon Agility Finals

What a week!

If you run agility, you should really consider going to the UKI US Open! It is such a great event, professionally run, great courses and judges and the atmosphere is amazing!!!! It is also exhausting, 4 am wake up calls, mentally challenging, late nights but again, AMAZING!

Leia was a my seasoned littler super star but was a bit concerned in the rings.

We still pulled off some super runs and I’m very proud of her. I think she had one refusal and some time faults all week. That’s pretty darn awesome at an event like this.

We have arrived in Jacksonville, Florida for the 2024 UKI US Open!

Pups are such good travelers and hotel guests. We stopped in South Carolina on the way and today we reached Florida.

This will be an intense, thrilling, fun, nerve wrecking, tiring, amazing week!

Whatever happens, I am so happy and grateful to be here with my best dogs! To be healthy and able to be on this adventure once more.

To my wonderful husband Patrick Cosgriff who is taking care of Sookie, kids, sports and full time job. Thank you for supporting my agility addiction! 🤪

We had a wonderful weekend at Rising Star Canine Ranch in North Carolina. Very challenging courses but so nice to run in this huge open space.

Leia was (as always, right) a star. We continue to work on the ring stress but she actually ran better and better and last run was the best of the weekend.

I am so so so proud of how Bodhi ran! I decided to challenge us with Master Series and we didn’t E any of the runs. Yay! One tiny thing in all runs Friday and Saturday but he was soooo good. Our last run was clean and one of those that just makes you smile from ear to ear.

Guess who was #1 top Australian Kelpie in both regular and preferred and is invited to the 2024 AKC Agility Invitationals in Orlando, Florida in December…..

LEIA!!

The AKC Invitationals is a very unique national event held in Orlando every December. The top 5 agility dogs in each breed gets invited to compete at this event.
This is the third year in a row my little Kelpie got invited.

My dogs and I are back from our mountain vacation. Lots of hiking, climbing, visiting restaurants and relaxing.

Most shops and restaurants are dog friendly and it’s nice to be able to bring the crew everywhere we go.

Everything takes time and practice. Especially dog training. That to me is the wonderful part. Working with dogs, step by step. Seeing them understand, grow in confidence and thrive with education!

This past weekend we went for lunch at The Cafe at Grelen. Lots of people and dogs but my dogs were calm and relaxed.

I wanted to bring up something that seems to be becoming more and more common.

Dogs off leash in parks or in public areas.

In the past 10 days, my 3 dogs and I have been approached twice by off leash dogs on our walks. The owner is very far away from their dog(s) who is free to run up to my dogs.

This is never appropriate. Ever!

The owner may want the dog to be able to run off leash for exercise and the dog is friendly so no harm done if they run up to another dog, right.

Before you unclip that leash, please consider these things:

Most areas/parks have leash laws. Those laws are to protect the wildlife, other park visitors and your own dog.

Your friendly dog may run up on a dog who is not friendly at all. Or the other dog may have fears that will force this dog to attack your dog.

Your dog may run up to a human who is afraid of dogs.

Your dog may run and find a baby animal.

Your dog may run after a group of deer and get lost.

Your dog may run in front of moving cars.

Please please please train your dog to walk on a leash and calmly walk past other dogs and humans. Other dogs do not want a strange dog in their face.

Please work your dog’s recall. It could save your dogs life if accidentally off leash.
