We had a wonderful weekend at Rising Star Canine Ranch in North Carolina. Very challenging courses but so nice to run in this huge open space.

Leia was (as always, right) a star. We continue to work on the ring stress but she actually ran better and better and last run was the best of the weekend.

I am so so so proud of how Bodhi ran! I decided to challenge us with Master Series and we didn’t E any of the runs. Yay! One tiny thing in all runs Friday and Saturday but he was soooo good. Our last run was clean and one of those that just makes you smile from ear to ear.

Guess who was #1 top Australian Kelpie in both regular and preferred and is invited to the 2024 AKC Agility Invitationals in Orlando, Florida in December…..

LEIA!!

The AKC Invitationals is a very unique national event held in Orlando every December. The top 5 agility dogs in each breed gets invited to compete at this event.
This is the third year in a row my little Kelpie got invited.

My dogs and I are back from our mountain vacation. Lots of hiking, climbing, visiting restaurants and relaxing.

Most shops and restaurants are dog friendly and it’s nice to be able to bring the crew everywhere we go.

Everything takes time and practice. Especially dog training. That to me is the wonderful part. Working with dogs, step by step. Seeing them understand, grow in confidence and thrive with education!

This past weekend we went for lunch at The Cafe at Grelen. Lots of people and dogs but my dogs were calm and relaxed.

I wanted to bring up something that seems to be becoming more and more common.

Dogs off leash in parks or in public areas.

In the past 10 days, my 3 dogs and I have been approached twice by off leash dogs on our walks. The owner is very far away from their dog(s) who is free to run up to my dogs.

This is never appropriate. Ever!

The owner may want the dog to be able to run off leash for exercise and the dog is friendly so no harm done if they run up to another dog, right.

Before you unclip that leash, please consider these things:

Most areas/parks have leash laws. Those laws are to protect the wildlife, other park visitors and your own dog.

Your friendly dog may run up on a dog who is not friendly at all. Or the other dog may have fears that will force this dog to attack your dog.

Your dog may run up to a human who is afraid of dogs.

Your dog may run and find a baby animal.

Your dog may run after a group of deer and get lost.

Your dog may run in front of moving cars.

Please please please train your dog to walk on a leash and calmly walk past other dogs and humans. Other dogs do not want a strange dog in their face.

Please work your dog’s recall. It could save your dogs life if accidentally off leash.

We are back home after the AKC Agility National Championship in Perry, Ga.

Leia was a star! Apart from agility, she is the best traveler and handles everything with such a happy attitude.

On Thursday we ran a warm up run and it was fun!

Friday we ran ISC (international course class) and we got 2nd place in the 16” class. (10% q rate) Wow little girl!
After that we ran a clean run in Nationals Standard class.

(The classes for the Nationals are standard, jumpers and hybrid)

Saturday at 7:30 am we ran jumpers with a clean run. After that we ran hybrid and it was a great run but a slight miscommunication sent her to an off course backside. That mistake took us out of the finals.

Her contacts were fantastic in all runs, she was happy and loved being there.

The only negative was that we had some pretty serious issues with the hotel we stayed at and I don’t think either of us slept for 3 nights. I did see it on the third day of running.

Great weekend with the BEST little Kelpie!!!!

Bodhi gets his own brag post this week! He was such a good boy this past weekend at Rising Star Canine Ranch. He looooooves the huge ring. He had great moments and his A frame and teeter were solid! He also had one wonderful DW.

The pups and I had a wonderful weekend running UKI at Rising Star Canine Ranch. It is so wonderful to run in the huge ring where the dogs can open up and run. (and me as well as this is on my own handler work on list)

Happy Halloween 🎃 !

I always look for training opportunities with my dogs and Halloween is a great one! Lots of people moving, scooters, costumes, music etc. Reward calm and attention on handler.

⭐️ UKI International Agility Champion ⭐️

Leia ran great this weekend and earned her IAC title at Level Up Dog Sports with wonderful judge Chip Gerfen! Courses were super! Challenging, flowing and fun! (Master series were fantastic! )Thank you!

This little Kelpie makes me so proud. 😭 We started competing in novice levels only 2 years ago after not knowing if she’d ever compete at all.
Now she has her AKC champion title, UKI champion title & 3rd at 16” AKC Agility invitationals!!

Can’t wait to continue this journey, sassy little Kelpie! Keep being loud, happy and just YOU!
