Sweet Melba needed a family that would help her on her weight loss journey. Andy was adopted from us a while back. His owner decided he needed a friend, and Melba joined them last month. Just look at this video. I love these two! Andy and Melba definitely have one thing in common - they both love their mama.

Shamus & Sophie
Shamus and Sophie came to the sanctuary together. Sophie is Shamus’s guide since he is completely blind. The first week they were at Miko’s Sanctuary, Shamus would go outside and hesitate to come back in because he didn’t trust where he was walking despite the ramp having slip-proof texturing. Sophie was insistent on helping him, whether it was from nudging him up the ramp or capturing my attention to call to him. Dogs are so adaptable and loyal.

Meet Melba
Melba came to us overweight. Check out the video, then visit our Adopt page on the website. You can see she has taken some of that weight off. She is still food motivated though😊. Keeping treats to a minimum and giving healthy treats is key to overweight dogs’ weight loss. What healthy treats do you give your dogs? We’ve discovered that our pups like raw, fresh green beans.

Mikos Sanctuary Gives Thanks
Animal rescues think a bit differently about Thanksgiving. We still give thanks, though it comes through the eyes of our rescues.
Memaw had such bad bloodwork when she came to us that we couldn't even spay her. 1 year later, her bloodwork is normal, we've been able to spay her and take care of her dental.
Norma came to us more recently. This little lady just wants a soft landing for the remainder of her life. When she said no one wanted her, she wasn't kidding. Caring for an incontinent pet is not for the faith of heart. It just takes A LOT of heart. 💙💗💛

Melba want everyone to know that she's still waiting for a family to find her. She's a cuddle bug, loves people, and loves to play! Also, worth celebrating, she's lost almost 2 pounds. Eight more to go. She's got this!
My heart is breaking trying to make the decision on little Paris. I was hoping that with good nutrition, supplements, medications, and vet care that we could turn things around. She's fighting dementia, rear leg weakness, and skin issues. We even tried a wheelchair to see if that would help her mobility. I now believe Paris was gone before we got to her. I'll never know who Paris was, and that deeply saddens me. This video is of our bed time routine. Paris actually had a rather good day yesterday and those good days are what I cling onto.
