Our Pet Expo is today!

The Pet Expo will be held at Rivers & Bluffs Animal Shelter today, September 21st from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Activities will include bounce houses, rock painting, face painting, other "carnival" games, tours of the shelter (1pm - 2pm only), a variety of canine demos from the local K9 units and competition dogs, delicious food from Udder Brothers food truck, and more!

Adorable Izzy still looking for a new home!

Izzy is a young adult cat that came to our care when her owner could no longer care for her. She is a very laid-back cat that just wants to go with the flow, and hang out. She is always up for some scratches, and sometimes she will even find interest in a toy to play with. Izzy is content being the only cat, but she has also done well with cats that are similar to her personality. We feel she could easily fit in a home with kids.

Handsome Chappie is still looking for a home!

This sweet Pitbull is approximately 5 - 6 years old and currently weighs around 70 pounds. He enjoys spending time playing fetch, going for walks and cuddling with the volunteers. He would make a great dog for someone who doesn't want a dog going through the puppy stage, but also has several years left of good mobility to be a walking partner. Chappie keeps a clean kennel and knows a few commands, but he will require treats in exchange. He would do best in a home with no cats or small animals. Other dogs may be a possibility but any current dogs in the home should meet Chappie first before adoption.

Our online auction is coming up next month, and we are already getting in some great items! This quilt is one of the items we have received, and it is beautiful!

Our online auction will be October 10th - Oct 19th this year. If you are want to donate a themed basket or have an item please let us know! We would like to have all auction items by October 1st.

These two dogs went missing from Limery Rd in Prairie du Chien, Wi. this morning. The brown one is a female and she is wearing the blue collar in the picture. The black dog is a male and currently isn't wearing a collar.

And then there was one!

Brandy is the last of the Border Collie mix puppies that came in recently, and she is still looking for a home. This sweet girl is approximately 4 months old and currently weighs around 25 - 30 pounds. We don't know what she is mixed with, so it is hard to say how big she will get once fully grown. Brandy loves to play with toys, cuddle with the volunteers, and be with other dogs. She is a bit scared of new things, but we know in the right family she will gain the confidence she needs.

What an adorable dog pile!

Here we have Annie, and a few of the puppies we have in our care enjoying the morning playing. Annie has been a great teacher to the pups on how to play appropriately, and has done well correcting them when they are too much. Play groups are a great tool in shelters to help dogs socialize with each other, learn from each other, and just get all their energy out! Annie, and the puppies picture are still looking for their new homes!

It's Friday the 13th!

Whether you are superstitious or not today is a day that people claim is filled bad luck. You spill your coffee, you are running late to work, you trip, the list goes on and on and it can all be blamed on Friday the 13th. Another sign of bad luck is supposedly when a black cat crosses your path but this superstition isn't limited to just a day, it is associated with them all the time. Here at Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter we love our black cats! They are so loving, and while some don't like the color black we think it gives cats a very sleek and majestic look. Also, in some cultures black cats meant prosperity, good health or resembled gods like the Egyptian goddess Bastet.

Chandler joining in on our lunch and learn for staff and volunteers!

Today we are learning about on leash reactivity with dogs. We are always trying to learn new things on how to help the animals in our care at Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter.

Beautiful Ruby is still looking for a home!

Ruby is a young, beautiful cat that was surrendered to our shelter when her owner could no longer care for her. She is approximately a year old, and has gorgeous, fluffy black fur. Her tail is like a feather duster! Ruby is very affectionate with the volunteers, and staff, and she has also done well greeting visitors. We were told by her previous family that she was apprehensive of dogs, but was great with kids. We have introduced her to couple cats here at the shelter, and she was a bit of a diva with the other felines so she may need slower introductions in the future.

We are still looking for auction items for our Auction For Pets coming up in October!

If you would like to put together a themed basket of items, or you are a business that would like to donate something feel free to reach out! Last year we had a wide variety of items like a Yeti Cooler, restaurant coupons, wine, home décor, and so much more!

We would prefer all auction items to be physically at the shelter by October 1st so staff, and volunteers have enough time to get items listed on the auction site.

Meet Chappie!

Chappie is a 5 - 6 year old Pitbull mix that is on the search for a new home after his owner could no longer care for him. He currently weighs around 70 pounds, but he does need to go on a bit of a diet. Don't tell him that though as treats are his favorite thing in the whole world! Chappie's second favorite things are tennis balls, or any "tough" toy he can chew on. When excited he can be a bit of a puller on the leash, but otherwise the dog walkers have reported he is a nice dog to walk. He would probably do best in a home as the only pet as he seems to prefer not being around other dogs, and he will chase small animals like cats, rabbits, etc.

Joey is dreaming of his forever home!

Joey is a very sweet orange tiger cat that came into our shelter with his brother Chandler. They have been with us for a few months now, and so far they haven't gained any interest. We are estimating them to be around a year old, and overall they are the perfect mixture of personality! Joey is laidback, and has a more go with the flow personality while Chandler is more of an explorer. They both enjoy playing, seem to do well with dogs, and most other cats. They are great lobby cats, and love greeting all the visitors, kids included. We would love to for Joey and Chandler to find a home together as they have never been apart.
