“Reputable breeders have one goal in mind: To produce healthy, and physically and behaviorally stable dogs that meet the standard – the written description of the breed. Most would rather gnaw broken glass than purposefully breed for any trait that defies the requirements of the standard.

Run, don’t walk, from any breeder who is actively marketing puppies that deviate from the breed standard.

Fad colors should also send you streaking for the exit. Blue Frenchies, brindle Pugs, silver Labs, merle Bulldogs – these colors and patterns are not recognized nor traditional in these breeds. The only reason to intentionally perpetuate them is to cash in on the naiveté of buyers who are willing to pay top dollar because of their “rarity.”

Woohoo!!! More great news from Glen Rose, TX!!! Eclair was WB from the BBE class under BREEDER JUDGE Ann Wolf for a 4 point major. She was handled by her mommy Shawn Fails!! She’s CH Cannoli’s litter sister, a GCH Boss x CH Butters baby. She is bred and owned by Shawn, Kelly Fails and me. So proud of you Shawn!!!

Jett-A was RWB with Matias Mato. Andy was RWD with Marty Hancock and Andy’s dad Hunter was select with Krista Keel! Congrats to all the winners!!!

UPDATE: his BEST home has been found!

We got back an 18 month old boy today. He was a singleton, Hunter x Whiskey. He has an awesome pedigree. I think he’d make a great family pet. I’ll assess him over the next 2 weeks for where he’s best suited. He gets along with other dogs fine, loves kids and has had some professional training. He’s fat but that too shall pass. He appears fearless thus far. He will be neutered and fully vetted before leaving here and will have a fee to cover that. Crate trained, very much been a house dog with no boundaries and will need a belly band to be loose in the house. Video in comments.

Her best 🏡 has been found!

This lovely little angel is 👀 👀for her BEST 🏡 as a family companion or performance prospect. She’s a darling red/white and petite. Maybe will be a 13”. ❤️❤️

Her sire was Best Opposite In Show at this year’s NBC National Specialty and dam is a grand champion. Sire is fully health tested including hips, embark and heart. Dam has hips, embark, eyes and thyroid tested.

Laying on the couch, watching Christmas movies with my special girl, I am reflecting on my breeding program and next steps. I am considering my breedings in 2024 as I try to keep it to 2-3 litters maximum. I read these words from another breeder and asked her if I could copy them and adapt to my own:

It’s like a tapestry. You weave. Using all available tools, dna tests, health tests, keeping track of the offspring - including the pets. I use line breeding and inbreeding when needed but do a lot of outcrossing - importing bloodlines that are completely unrelated when needed. I make sure the outcross lines are strong where I need them and are of similar look. At this point, I do have a look - and I plan to keep it with careful outcrossing. I’m very close to weaving in those studs and pedigrees I deem important to incorporate.

This has worked well for me. Sometimes I do get stuck. Tonight I reached out to a fellow breeder friend with similar type and goals to mine. She made some suggestions and wow, off I went getting information!

You are not saving a puppy from a situation...you are funding that backyard breeder to do it again. And Again. And Again. I put so much work into my litters. More than even the best breeders. My prices stay low on the competitive side. I spend 9-10 weeks with these pups. I live in the same room with them, start good potty habits, habituate to sounds and lights, expose them to new novel things, love, hug and kiss on them. That doesn't even begin what we did before they were alive.

I went to see this beautiful litter tonight. They are proudly sired by a dog I bred who was BOSS at our National Specialty this year. I’ll let their breeder post the individual photos then I can share but they are sooooooo cute!!! Puppies are avai!able from this litter. Located in south Louisiana. 3 boys/2 girls. EDIT: best home ever found!!

This puppy whom I held back from my April litter is now ready to go live his BEST pet life! He's the sweetest boy, sensitive, but outgoing, litterbox and crate trained, leash trained, socialized, fully vaccinated. His name is Fleur de Lis' Easy Come, Easy Geaux, "Easy". He is 6.5 months old. Easy is Embark tested. F7 and PRA carrier therefor not at risk for any Beagle related genetic diseases in which Embark tests for. Located in south Louisiana. I will not ship cargo!
But I have many resources for ground transport. Easy is heavy, LOTS of bone, but he's not tall, maybe 13.5" right now.

Easy is avai!able to a loving pet family. He could also be shown or even go to a juniors home. He's fun and stands around with his tail up. Easy is VERY well socialized, crate trained, show trained and fully vaccinated. He is located in south Louisiana but there are plenty of options the rest of this year to deliver him to shows, etc. PM for more information. He is a GCHB Arthur x GCH Madison puppy. His brother just won WD/BOW at the NBC National Specialty. I held him back to have a fun mail to show but he's not turning out for my program. He might fit great in to yours but of course I always prefer a pet family where he can just be a couch potato.

EDIT: The BEST home has been found!!! She's going to live with a home that has a Fleur de Lis Beagle and 3 kids. I couldn't be more excited for her!!!

Still searching for her BEST home. She’s absolutely wonderful to live with, a couch potato. Olive is an AKC champion and is Embark clear with OFA preliminary good hips and normal patellas. She will make a fabulous pet, gets along with everyone. Olive is 15 months old. She will be spayed before leaving. Up to date on vaccines and is very healthy. She is a bit lazy and laid back so not sure she'd make a good performance dog but she's eager to please so maybe she could, not sure.
