Realizing when it's time to throw in the towel is never easy. Especially when you're stubborn and a fighter by nature. Defeat was never in my vocabulary.
In 2011, I made a crazy decision to buy a stallion. An unbroke stallion all the way from Nevada. Little did I know that stallion needed me just as badly. We defied a lot of odds and all these years later we have 30 some foals and horses out there making a name for themselves with the people who love them. World Championship and titles are great, but knowing where each foal is and being a part of their journey is all I ever wanted. I'm grateful for all the mare owners and foal buyers who put their trust in us. I'm grateful for Thinkin Strait's followers for the continuous support and enthusiasm.
2024 is the last year Beau will be making his genetic contribution to the American Paint Horse. While it seems like the years struggling to put together a group of my own mares just came to fruition... some things are short lived and it's what you did in that amount of time that matters. Truth is, this economy has made it too hard to do it anymore.
I will be sending my lease mare home and dispersing all of my own mares by this Fall. They can go open or in foal.
It's been a Hell of an adventure. I'm forever grateful for that stallion I took a chance on.
