Offering Extended Hours at WVC Alice

M - F : 8a -7p

For only the months of October and November, we will be offering extended hours. Monday to Friday, we will be open from 8:00am to 7:00pm.

We will not have extended hours in September. The Alice clinic will still be closed on Saturdays.

Our Premont clinic will not offer extended hour and will maintain their current schedule.

This dog came to see us because he was unable to p*e. After performing an ultrasound Dr Sam diagnosed him with bladder stones. Dr Sam then attempted to pass a urinary catheter and found the urethra was also obstructed with a stone. He then isolated the location in the urethra to just deep to the scrotem.

Dr Sam then decided to perform emergency surgery. He opened up a small hole in the abdomen and located the bladder. The bladder was opened and the stones were removed. Both testicles were the removed and the site of the blockage was located. The urethra was incised and the stone was removed from the urethra. Dr Sam then proceeded to perform a scrotal urethrostomy (created a new opening for the patient to p*e out of). This is done to provide a larger whole for the patient to urinate through to decrease the likelihood of future blockage. A urinary catheter was placed in the new hole to ensure the urine continues to drain so the bladder doesn’t fill and put the sutures under stress and to ensure the new whole will heal and stay open.

Say a prayer this guy will recover well.

Raw meat donation to Texas A&M Wildlife Center.

“Hurricane Beryl aftermath

It’s terrible that so many people don’t have power in the Houston area. I hope it comes back on VERY soon.

If you know of anyone whose power is out and they have a lot of thawing meat, the Winnie Carter Wildlife Center, Texas A&M University can take the meat to help feed our 6 small exotic cats. We can come get the meat donations if travel is possible.

Here is one of the Servals that benefits from the donated meat that kind people donate to our program.”

For all cattle and bison producers:

The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) shares the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) copy of the final rule enhancing animal disease traceability (ADT) efforts for bovine. This rule was published in the Federal Register on May 9, 2024 and goes into effect 180 days following the date it was published, November 5, 2024.

The updated rule requires official ear tags to be visually and electronically readable for official use for interstate movement of certain cattle and bison, and revises and clarifies certain record requirements related to cattle. The final rule applies to:
- Sexually intact cattle and bison 18 months of age or older
- All dairy cattle
- Cattle and bison of any age for rodeo or recreation events
- Cattle or bison of any age used for shows or exhibition
