Duke!

Duke is a long time client that is boarding with us for the weekend. We have traveled with him out of town and had people recognize him while we were out of town! At roughly 160 lbs 😳he’s hard to miss walking around town! Don’t mind the pond, I’m still learning proper pond care 🤦🏻‍♂️

We have a special foster at Quest Canine who's looking for her forever home. Diamond is a 1-year-old cattle dog mix with a touch of wild grace, thanks to her 20% gray wolf heritage. She's a bundle of love, adores running, swimming, and, most of all, snuggle sessions!

Diamond may be a bit shy at first, but once she knows you, she's your devoted companion. She's fantastic off-leash, responds well to recalls, and is friendly with kids, cats, dogs, and even goats!

Phoebe got to explore some areas of the ranch she hasn’t been to today and I am so pleased with how she did. 6 dogs, new area, and off leash.

She’s just hit her 2 week mark and we’re preparing her to head home that the end of this week. Lots of new stuff in the coming days for Phoebe to make sure the foundation we’ve set for her owners is SOLID.

✨Freedom is earned ✨

We love letting our dogs run free on our property. It’s a great opportunity for self expression. Whether they want to sniff, walk around, zoomy it’s the perfect time for me to make quiet observations on their individual personalities.

For the last week and a half phoebe has been on a long line getting to do exactly this except I had the option to enforce the recall if I asked for it.
It’s extremely important to set the dogs up for success by using the equipment necessary until we are CONSISTENTLY seeing the results we want!

Today is the second day she’s been off the lead and she has been perfectly prepared for this! Great job phoebs! This next week is going to be a ton of fun!

Got a call to go help a past client with their dog and a newly installed doggie door.

The last time I was out there was because said “chug “ was running out the front gate and not returning…. This particular client is visually impaired. Like trained (not by me) guide dog visually impaired. You don’t need 20/20 vision to see the problem there.. 😂

I really enjoy working with this client and love seeing our families be successful with their dogs!

We’re so excited about Phoebe starting her Board and Train with us earlier this week! Not just because love little doodles but because this is the second dog we’ve had the opportunity to train for her owners!

3 years ago we trained their older dog. When phoebe wasn’t growing out of some of her puppy behaviors and they were struggling with her excitement levels they knew who to call!

We were able to get them lined out with a couple week management plan while we waited for her start date! She’ll be doing a 2 week puppy head start program!

Let’s welcome Lu to the Quest Canine family! She is a very sweet old girl that doesn’t seem to understand much in the ways of boundaries even though she’s got some pretty hard ones herself.

Lu will be doing a modified 4 week program with us to help her gain some new skills to navigate life. When Lu gets frustrated or over stimulated she will bite her owners and company.

We’ll spend a couple weeks establishing good basics, building a relationship, and and preparing Lu for some of the things she’s been struggling to deal with. Stay tuned!

Sono un cane del 21° secolo.

-Sono un Malinois.
Sovradotato tra i cani, brillo in tutte le discipline e sono sempre pronto a lavorare.
Oggi mi chiedono di rilassarmi sul divano tutto il giorno tutti i giorni.

-Sono un Akita Inu.
I miei antenati sono stati selezionati per la lotta tra cani.
Oggi mi chiedono di essere tollerante e mi si rimprovera la mia reattività quando uno di loro si avvicina a me.

-Sono un Beagle.
Quando inseguivo la mia preda, davo voce, così i cacciatori potevano seguirmi.
Oggi mi si mette un collare elettrico per stare zitto, e vorremmo che tornassi al richiamo con uno schiocco di dita.

-Sono uno Yorkshire Terrier.
Ero un terrificante cacciatore di ratti nelle miniere inglesi.
Oggi si pensa che non sia in grado di usare le mie zampe e mi tengono sempre tra le braccia.

-Sono un Labrador Retriever.
La mia visione della felicità è un tuffo in uno stagno per riportare al mio padrone l'anatra a cui ha sparato.
Oggi ci siamo dimenticati che sono un cane da movimento e grandi corse, sono grasso e devo fare la tata dei bambini.

-Sono un Jack Russel.
Sono in grado di affrontare una volpe un tasso e un ratto più grande di me nella sua tana.
Oggi mi rimproverano per il mio maledetto carattere e vorrebbero trasformarmi in un cane da salotto.

-Sono un Husky Siberiano.
Ho conosciuto i grandi spazi della Russia settentrionale, dove potevo trainare slitte a velocità impressionante.
Oggi ho come solo orizzonte solo le pareti del giardino, e per sola occupazione i buchi che scavo nel terreno.

-Sono un Border Collie.
Sono fatto per lavorare otto ore al giorno, e sono un artista inconfondibile del lavoro con il gregge.
Oggi sono arrabbiati con me perché, per mancanza di pecore, cerco di controllare biciclette, auto, bambini di casa e tutto ciò che è in movimento.

Io sono...
Sono un cane del 21° secolo.
Sono bello, sono allerta, sono ubbidiente, sto in una borsa...
ma sono anche un individuo che ha bisogno di esprimere i propri istinti, e non sono adatto alla vita sedentaria che vorresti farmi condurre.
Passare otto ore al giorno da solo in giardino, vederti un po' la sera quando torni a casa e avere diritto solo a una piccola passeggiata igienica mi renderà profondamente infelice.
Lo esprimerò abbaiando durante tutto il giorno, trasformando il tuo giardino in un campo minato, facendo i miei bisogni dentro casa, essendo ingestibile le rare volte che mi ritroverò fuori e, a volte, passando le mie giornate affondato sul mio cuscino.
Penserai allora che sono felice di poter godere di tutta questa comodità mentre vai a lavorare: in realtà sarò in esaurimento, perché questo male non è appannaggio dell'umano ma anche del cane del 21° secolo.
Se ti piaccio, se mi sogni da sempre, se i miei bellissimi occhi azzurri o il mio look da atleta mi fanno desiderare, ma non puoi regalarmi una vera vita da cani, una vita che vale davvero la pena di essere vissuta, e se non puoi offrirmi il lavoro che i miei geni chiedono, allora rinuncia a me.
Se ti piace il mio aspetto ma non sei disposto ad accettare i miei tratti di carattere derivati da una rigorosa selezione genetica e pensi di poterli cambiare con la tua unica buona volontà, allora rinuncia a me.
Sono un cane del 21° secolo, sì,ma in fondo a me, dorme ancora colui che combatteva, colui che cacciava, colui che tirava slitte, colui che guidava un gregge.
E prima o poi, nel bene o nel male, si sveglierà.

Thank you so much to everyone that voted! This was the exciting news that I have fought for a month 🗓️to share! We wanted to wait until the plaque came in an it was official. Unfortunately I am in Wisconsin this week on a business trip ✈️so I wasn’t able to be there to accept it!

I really couldn’t do any of this without my amazing wife Cassidy Stauffer. She works so hard to make sure everything runs smooth, supports every move I make, and is the logistics behind a lot of what I do! Thank you so much sweets! ❤️

⚠️Did you know if you cannot hold the BACK of your hand ✋🏻 on the pavement for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog to walk on.
As the temperatures rise this summer ☀️so does the risks to your 🐕. Make sure you’re prepared, bring plenty of water, and know yours and your dogs limits.
Exercise early ⏰
Rest frequently 🥱
Drink plenty of water 🚰

Getting a dog to work the way you’re asking isn’t remarkable. Getting a dog to WANT to work the way you're asking is the key.

Recently, I heard a trainer say, “I put a lot of pressure on my dogs, but the ones that can take it are the good ones”. I would suggest the ones that didn't make it (with him) may have also been good ones, but that particular training method never gave the dogs the chance.
Sometimes people get caught up in their own expectations, so much so, they put their desire of how they want their dogs to work ahead of how that individual dog needs to work, to be the best he can be.

Some trainers are one dimensional in their approach, and rather than teach and encourage they focus on correction and bullying. If their dog doesn’t succeed, it’s a “shortcoming of the dog,” that is blamed, suggesting he didn’t have enough drive or was not keen enough to train, when in fact, it was the method.
Those trainers can go through many dogs and the ones they do get on with, have success young but do not often stay competitive at the highest level at 7, 8, 9 or 10+ years old; versus dogs trained with a more constructive, adaptable ideology who can succeed at the highest level at a much older age.

Dogs can be trained successfully with many different styles and techniques.
There is a big difference though between a dog that has been trained only through drilling and a dog that has been trained intuitively, cultivating enthusiasm and taking into account their individual amount of desire, eye, excitability, maturity, feel, width etc.

When the work makes sense to your dog and is enjoyable, it becomes your dogs idea to want to please.
This is true with young dogs and also when competing at the trials. You’ll find that when conditions are hot, humid or difficult and you need your dog to try for you, it’s the dogs that are mentally invested that give you their heart.
You can just train or you can partner.
