A long but wonderful story of two elderly ladies with young hearts…

Several months ago a lady from North Carolina found us online and contacted us. Her sweet elderly mother had a sweet elderly dog, Sienna, a 14 year old lab. They were both living together in a retirement community until it seems that the elderly lady needed to be transferred from independent living to memory care. The memory care housing is more of a room with medical staff instead of her previous large apartment. With that said, Sienna would not be able to join her. They did not want to surrender Sienna to the Humane Society as a 14 year old dog, no matter how sweet, would not fare well nor would be easily adopted. The two elderlies stayed together until the moving day and then Cee-Cee was transported to Dogtree Pines. We thought Cee-Cee, who was separated from her life-long owner and was very overweight, would only last a few months. However, we put her on a healthy diet and started frequent walks and she has flourished. She looks years younger after losing the weight and now is able to speed by some of the younger dogs on walks. Cee-Cee still shows her age with her sweet gray face but is healthy and is enjoying her time here.

A few days ago, Connie the elderly lady’s daughter asked for a visit from Cee-Cee to her mother. We were able to bring Cee-Cee to visit her “mom” and she recognized her mom and nose bumped her wheelchair multiple times to say “hello”. We took pictures and heard “Hey there’s Cee-Cee” from several aides coming by. Each person received a hearty tail wag along with half of her body wiggling while Cee-Cee received a butt rub in return. It is true DTP does wonders for elderly dogs and sometimes we also do wonderful things for elderly people too! ❤️

FINALLY!!!! We have big news to report. Miss Olive came home from the vet yesterday. She was the white lab saved from Mexico with a broken leg. It’s been a long long journey, but she is just a few years old and we are hoping she will have a nice long life with four legs instead of three.
Olive was found in San Luis Mexico, apparently hit by a car or two. She had seen a vet in Mexico and it appeared as though her leg was wrapped with duct tape. We also believe this is where she picked up a very nasty infection in the wound. We saw her story and offered to help but we had no idea the journey would be this long and this intense.

She had her first surgery with a metal plate placed back in February. She bent the metal plate and had a very severe infection that caused the screws in the plate to loosen. At that time, they replaced the first plate and placed a second one I told them I did not want her out of the hospital until she was healed.
While the plates were in, the metal did not allow the infection to fully heal so they just kept it at bay until the bone healed enough to remove the plates and then the infection healed. This whole process took the last six months she came home yesterday and went to her Foster, auntie Randi and uncle Jimmy, to keep her moving slow for the next couple of months. They live right downtown so she can lay out in the grass and watch the happenings as well as get her short walks down at the Courthouse Square.

Prescott Animal Hospital did a great job and took amazing care of her. She was a tech favorite. They would take her out and play with her on their breaks and even were said to nap with her from time to time when pick up rides were late.

Dr. Kyle Norman was her doctor and watched over her as though she was his own. She will be missed at PAH, but we are super happy to have her out of a kennel and into a home.

A little bird told me that auntie Randy slept on the dog bed with her last night to make sure that she was happy and safe.

Thank you for everyone that donated to Olive. I know we had some big fundraisers a while back and I was anxious to share the good news with everyone. Your donations allowed us to give this young lady a better future for many years to come.

Welcome to Miss Blue Opal. We were made aware of her two days ago by Volunteers at Maricopa County animal control. Opal is said to be a 16-year-old healer and we figured since we were on a roll we would stick with saving the oldest healers on earth. It was stated that she had not walked in four days when she came into the shelter so about a week and all. She got here Friday evening and I have not witnessed her stand up or walk until today. I took her food and enticed her with Vienna sausages (thank you all for the Vienna sausages) and got her outside. She has been out for 15 or 20 minutes trucking around the side yard. Next line of order is nails and bath and Vet tomorrow morning. Just wanted to let you know that Opal can walk and will be on the mend in no time. Thank you to our amazing volunteers Karen and Mark (parents of peanut/Max) for transporting. Welcome to Dogtree Pines miracle dog center. 🤣❤️😘

Welcome back to One-Eyed Jack!
Jack has been through a lot in the past few years. He was rescued in Seligman by Yavapai humane trappers who thought he was a senior dog. We responded to them and went to check him out at Prescott Animal Hospital and realized that he was not a senior. We volunteered to get him out of boarding , while he was being marketed for adoption. During that time, after watching his crazy antics, we realized he was only a couple years old. We attended several events for YHT with no success. We agreed to have Jack transferred to us so we could continue to look without him being housed in a kennel at PAH. A few months later Jack went to a foster with some friends. We did not formalize the adoption because he has allergies and we wanted to cover the expenses. Long story short, he came back to us last week after years of being at the foster home. I thought he would be more traumatized, but in fact, he was quite happy to see his original home even though there’s only a couple of dogs he was familiar with at this point. Like the good boy he is, he meshed right into the group like he had been here forever. 10 minutes later, he was running around with the pack. I suspect that all his issues will be resolved now that he is here with company and freedom. Welcome home sweet One-Eyed Jack!!!

Here is some information about ❤️ STELLA ❤️
10-11 years old
Boxer Mix
Healthy and Active
Spayed and up-to-date on all vaccinations. No medical issues.

*Good with kids and other dogs. Has been around medium to large dogs but not sure about littles. She would probably be good with them too. Cats unknown but I might be hesitant to try.
*Can be the only dog or would be great with one or two others. (Not a large pack dog).
*Lived with her family in Kansas for 9 years with two kids and another dog (lab). The family split up and Stella lost her people and her dog sister. She needs a loving home so badly.
*Crate trained while living her life in Kansas but has done perfectly without it since leaving there.
*House broken and learned to use a doggie door.
*Loves napping and getting attention. Loves to be pet by anyone and everyone. She likes exploring the yard with my other dogs. She can still run and jump and chase the ground squirrels 🤣
*She is a little food aggressive with other dogs but not people. I’ve been feeding her separately and being careful when giving treats. She’s a very sweet girl. She truly is an easy dog that just wants to be loved.

Let’s help find this very sweet girl a home! ❤️🐾❤️

I lucked out and came to DTP for a little while. A really nice lady fell in love with me there. Then, she took me home where she told me of lazy summer days, afternoon cervezas, and living the retirement lifestyle. Umm, NOT! What a trick that was…I got snookered, BOL! Keeping the hoomans in line, guarding the giant dog they call a horse, and patrolling 2.6 acres is exhausting…exhausting, I tell you!
I wouldn’t change a thing. Consider fostering or adopting a DTP dog…we are the best!

Here’s an update on big guy GUS! He is an absolute love. Don’t tell anybody, but he’s right up there with my favorites. He has no issues with anyone and it’s just a sweet as could be.
He had a vet check up last week. Dr. Tammy could finally see some form of ear canal which means his ears are getting better and the inflammation is going down. His skin is looking much better with his weekly baths and he’s starting to play. He’s running, more like a trot, playing with balls and toys from time to time. He’s gained about 10 or 12 pounds and is looking wonderful. The shelter aged him at eight years old, but we think he’s a bit older. it’s hard to say with these guys that have had a really rough life. I think he’s really happy enjoying love and freedom for the first time. Some of these dogs you can tell had a good life before, he is not one of them. I’m so happy he’s here to stay!!!
