Be the Angel:

From Volunteer Randi….

At this time of year, we all reflect. I’ve helped a dozen plus dogs get adopted this year. Today they all are being loved and starting a new life in a happy family. And isn’t that what we all want? A sanctuary is great for the elderly dogs and ones that love the dog pack but for the ones that crave having their own person - we look for the right adopter or foster.

What to do with Tanner? He was a pup that came along with elderly Blue Roomba. Many angels helped in Tanner’s journey.

First, the guy at the shelter asked us if we could take him. Tanner would have been at-risk as he was young but almost feral and we knew we could help almost immediately. While taking a dog to her adopted parents, they said that their neighbor might want a dog too. More angels. I met with them.

Tom and Renee are dog people and I spent time thinking this could be a great thing. They were interested in a younger dog. Could they work for Tanner? I brought Tanner over for a meet and greet. Their dog Rosie wanted to play with Tanner. We can build on that. Tanner froze. We wouldn’t give up on him.

These folks were angels and honestly worked wonders. After weeks of working with Tanner around their house with a leash he is now enjoying a full and wonderful life! He jumps for joy as he walks and enjoys the dog park too. Tanner is loved and gives love back to his family. Never underestimate your ability to make a difference. My wish for all is that we all have angels like Tanner did!

Volunteer Spotlight… the amazing, incomparable, does just about everything…Cathy! We love Cathy and obviously the dogs love Cathy. The sanctuary wouldn’t be what it is without her and we’re very grateful. ❤️

Helen in action

Yesterday we said goodbye to the littlest one of the Dogtree Pines pack, Helen. Over 15 years ago, my mom found her running down the middle of the road in Somerton. She stopped, open the door and the little dog jumped in. She named her Helen and the rest is history. Helen came to DOGTREE with some eye issues about five or six years ago and never left. Helen was full of spunk, didn’t take any sh*t and managed to hang with all the big dogs. Four or five days ago, she had a steep decline and we knew her time was coming. She was laid to rest in my arms yesterday by the ever compassionate, Dr. Tammy. She returned to Dogtree to be laid to rest under a beautiful tree in the forest. She was a volunteer favorite and was visited by a number of her fans on Sunday when we knew she was getting close. She was one of the favorites. When we did tours. People always admired the big dogs until they saw little Helen peep around the corner and they would always say “oh look who’s the little one?” Helen will be missed, although her bark, not so much. Fly high sweet Helen!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

“I’d wanna be me too”! 😃 Check out our sweet girl Olive…having a blast in her foster home while recovering from the multiple surgeries on her back leg. Thank you to Randi and Jimmy for taking such good care of her. 🐾❤️🐾
