With being restricted from groom for a bit, I wanted to share some advice with my clients to help your furry pets to be in the best state possible. Line brushing is one of my favorite techniques -it is fairly easy (better than muscling through that coat hoping you got everything), effective and can even be relaxing for your dog. I will post some videos below you can watch, one for doodle hair (can also be used for fine hair dogs as well with a few alterations) and one for double coated dogs.
Few things to remember —
While tools are most essential, you don’t need to go out and buy a $30-50 brush to accomplish a good brushing session. I do however advocate to have the correct brushes and combs. What I mean by that is for doodles a small to medium pin long tooth slicker brush is great, while for a double coated dog you will need a medium to heavy duty long tooth slicker, as their hair is denser and a fine tooth will do nothing in preventing tangles and mats. For fine hair a small short pin slicker is just fine.
Next is your choice of combs - for fine short hair (or small dogs) you can get away with shorter tooth combs. I highly suggest for longer coats, larger dogs and especially double coats having a longer comb, such as a greyhound to get through that coat properly.
Detangling spray is also a good option, if it’s been a bit since their last good brush.
If you have any questions about the type of brushes or combs please feel free to message me, I’m always happy to answer those questions and even help find the ideal tools for you!
