October is Pet Wellness Month. Feline Leukemia (FeLV) is an awful disease that can affect our feline friends. FeLV can be transmitted through close social contact and through saliva contact. It can also be transmitted through blood, urine, f***s, nasal secretions and milk. Sharing litterboxes, food, water, mutual grooming and bite wounds are all possible of transmission.

We've tested 3 positive FeLV out of 91 tests in clinic and have had staff lose their own cats due to this disease. There is no effective treatment and is mainly supportive. Cats are most vulnerable as kittens and they should be vaccinated with a vaccine which includes two kitten vaccines and a yearly booster.
