MEET THE HERD....This is Rosie. She is Olivia‘s mom. Rosie‘s registered name is QT Rose. Olivia‘s registered name is Rosie‘s Rambler. Olivia‘s dad is Rawhide Rambler.

Rosie was purchased as a yearling from a sale in Lexington, KY.

When she went through the sale Rosie had a wrap on her leg saying she cut it getting on the trailer and was just fine. When my husband got home, it was clear that she had actually been tangled in fencing and her leg was badly scarred.

She was never rideable but she is still able to help people learn and build their horsemanship skills.

Rosie is 23 years old now.

WE APPRECIATE everyone who reaches out to us day to day to ask questions and inquire about our services. We wanted to clarify what we offer here, to make it easier for you to determine if we are the right fit for what you are looking for.

We've been getting several calls about the cost to just come and ride our horses for the day. That isn't something that we offer here.

Our horses are trained for lessons and showing and they have specific nuances and cues that our regular riders learn and are familiar with. Our horses have a lot of training and if the rider doesn’t have the training to match it’s not going to go well.
It’s not that the rider will get hurt. However, their lack of knowledge will frustrate the horses and teach them to ignore the cues they’ve been taught.

If you are just looking for a day ride, we refer you to Ben’s Happy Trails or Carter Caves.

If you are interested in learning how to ride or if you are working toward building on your existing knowledge to become a better rider, please reach out to us to get on our lesson calendar! If you are serious about horses we encourage you to truly invest in education and self improvement through programs like ours.

DARE TO CHASE YOUR DREAMS....

While many of our posts feature the children in our riding programs, we also have many adults who participate in activities around the barn.

This beautiful gal and her husband are like family. They have boarded their horses here, had one in training with me and they take lessons sometimes.

We trail ride together, go out to dinner together and just enjoy our families spending time together.

Such amazing connections are formed around horses.

It isn't JUST about riding. It is so much more.

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK: Last weekend our team participated in the Wayne County Horse Show.

There is always a ton of cooperation and helpfulness exhibited when we make the trip to show. People support one another and help get horses ready and riders in and out of the ring.

Another example, two of our adult lesson clients allow my (Jess) other lesson students to show their horses and share their horses. I am incredibly grateful!

THANK YOU TO OUR HELPERS!

I have students who come and help me around the barn throughout the week.

On one day recently they came out to help on a day that the farrier was there. The girls helped catch horses, hold horses and pick hooves. The farrier tipped them five dollars each showing his appreciation to their help.

Some of my students even run the gator and help with farm chores that way.

I am so grateful for our hardworking barn family.

Ohio Friends
Does anyone know of a farm or facility to lease or buy near or around Kettering, Ohio? Ideal set up would have room for 10-20 horses, an indoor and or outdoor, and pastures. A trainer is looking to relocated and could use some leads. TIA!

In the summer months it is important to stay hydrated!! Just ask our barn chicken, LOL.

KAIDA isn't letting the hot weather stop her from being sassy pants. Hopefully this video brings some joy to you this sweltering Monday.

Yesterday we shared the first moments of KAIDA's encounter with the water hose. This was a few minutes later, LOL. She decided milk was more delicious than the hose is sketchy.

KAIDA didn't know quite what to think about her first encounter with the water hose.

COULD YOU DO THIS? LOL...Sometimes laughter is EXACTLY what you need. We love to laugh here at JLR Farm. Come and join us. You won't regret it.

HOW GOOD IS YOUR BALANCE? Last week we practiced several ways to mount bareback and also mounted without a girth and why that’s important not to cause strain on the horse’s back! Unmounted lessons are part of our programs here at JLR Farm! We believe that, among other things, they help to develop more well rounded horsemanship skills.

On hot summer days sometimes the best lesson is the importance and benefits of relaxing, laughing and having a good time. Barns are (of course) a place where people come to enjoy and learn about horses. BUT if you take a step back to see the big picture, it is also true that barns are a safe place to gather, make friends and connect with one another as well. What fun things do you do around the barn when it is too hot to ride?

SYLVESTER agrees that it is better to work smarter NOT harder in the summer time. When he isn't riding horses, you'll find him in the Gator hitching a ride from here to there.

We recently hauled to Masterson Station in Lexington, KY for their cross country course. That’s what Megan and her horse really enjoy! Go along for the ride!

KAIDA didn't know what to think when her momma went for a short ride a few days ago. This video is sure to bring a smile to your face.

As you enjoy this awesome video of Kaida playing with a ball...Here is an update on all she's learned. She halters well, picks up all 4 feet for me (Jess) and a few others. We haven't started leading yet but she also gives to pressure a little bit. We hope you enjoy watching this girl grow up as much as we do.

Horse Adventures

Here at JLR Farm we love every minute of being at the barn, from grooming, stall cleaning, and definitely riding! Some of our favorite adventures are trail riding (Yatesville Lake, Greenbo, Shawnee, and Carter Caves to name a few), riding in the arena at home, playing games on horseback, and attending local shows.

Some of our goals for this year are to enter a couple of minis in a parade or two to gear up for the All Horse Christmas Parade in Lebanon Ohio. Sassy and McKinley hope to find a rider who shares their love of adventure with an on the farm lease. Blackie is enjoying his new lease and is excited to go to his favorite trail riding place, Yatesville Lake! Lyle and Olivia will be getting ready to show next year at the Boyd County Fair and Elle hopes to get back under saddle this year so she can join in the fun as well.
