I am hopping on here to notify you all that response times to inquiries will be delayed as I am needed more at home due to some family medical issues. I hope to resume normal fall response times in a week or 2.
Those that know me know my fall response times are still delayed, but hoping they won’t be as delayed in a week or 2 😉. Managing my business, solo parenting my littles during my husband’s rigorous fall schedule (especially when there is no rain) and helping with the farm are a balancing act, one that I love, so thank you for understanding. I will respond to client messages and general inquiries as soon as I can, but if something is dire please seek help at one of the many fabulous clinics that offer emergency services.

For those that know me I do not take compliments well and they often catch me off-guard when I am simply just “doing my job...” while getting to know you. I do love getting to know people and their pets and their stories.
I do not know if I am just bashful about attention or maybe I do not want to live up to the “hype,” (I know many, many excellent veterinarians so I do not want to be compared) so I deflect compliments like so many do. Today I had a completely, unexpected surprise…I was notified that someone nominated me for SRG people’s choice veterinarian and that totally melted my heart. Whoever you are, thank you. It is an honor to be nominated. Also, I want to thank my clients (all of my clients are so appreciative❤️); I enjoy their kind words even though in the moment I may deflect. I pour my heart into my family and I try my best for your family. To me, God and family and friends are everything.

Great day of meeting new patients that were happy and excited to see us😍!

How did I know what they were feeling? Pets communicate with us through their body language and sometimes it is very subtle. All of the dogs today were what I call ""wiggle worms," constantly wagging their tails and consequently shaking their booties❤️. I couldn't see this cutie's eyes, but I could tell he was comfortable because of his relaxed jaw and his constant tail wagging, even while he was getting vaccinated.
I added the chart below because the cues listed there are what I pay attention to. I do not want to do too many things that push a pet up the ladder, so if need be, I dispense calming meds and come back a different day because we want everyone to enjoy the visit. Unfortunately, some pets go straight to bite without any cues so it is always best to proceed with caution. If you are out in public and see a dog, always ask his/her owner if you can approach before you go straight to touching the dog.

Shout out to my baby who turns 3 today! She was a baby when God started putting my life-long career dream into motion. I didn't know how I was going to juggle raising a baby and starting a practice, but sometimes you just have to jump in and have a little faith. She has gone from the baby being bathed next to surgical tools to a little hell-raiser that loves all animals.

Update: dog is back home
There is a dog that looks like a black lab just on the east side of the Primghar golf course in a field. Has a collar, but cannot be caught.

A little throw back to all those nice sunny autumn days when Deano experienced his first harvest, catching those 💤 in the combine! I always tell clients to get their puppy exposed to things that they want he/she around as an adult (and be sure to bring along the treats to make it a positive experience). What a great experience for Deano!

The first pic was the first time I met him. Look at that cute face with those ears😍. His owner was holding him in a little bit of a bear hug, which is a great thing to practice at home because many times bear hugs are the most common form of restraint in veterinary medicine. These pics make me smile on this cloudy Monday.

Also, just want to make you aware... Did you know that it is an option to come see me (with an appointment😉 and on-leash )? Sometimes Deano comes to visit me and sometimes I get to go visit him and all of his adorable little kitten friends.

More and more people in this world are having to go through behavioral euthanasia of a beloved, but unpredictable pet. This is a reminder that even if someone did everything right there can be wiring in the brain that is just "off." Sometimes I see this when a pet is young and sometimes it is an aging/cognitive change. Losing Lulu is a group on Facebook for people that have been through this difficult, but safe and justified decision. Trish, a dog trainer, shared her personal, but heartbreaking story below.
