Super nice cat, big broad and rugged with the biggest cheek ruffs I've ever seen. Fairly fresh track with a 2 mile chase then an hour of figure eights til they finally wore him down. They had him at bay for 30 minutes when I got to within 700 yards he broke. They caught him again 3 times before I got there. As I got close he broke again 2 more times before I could get a crack at him. I think the dogs were relieved it was over for their feet were pretty beat up from the past week of running in the brutal conditions we've had. Time for a break. Ironically the thermometer in the pictures reflects the cats weight, almost. 34

Ben from Vermont came as a spectator but decided to get a license anyway and was sure glad he did! The dogs(Rusty, Tawny, Micky) did another bang up job. 3 hours of fight and go they finally held him. Nice Tom

Not much to see, just a bunch of barking dogs but who knows when they'll get to chase another cat, the long range isn't promising so I'm giving them the credit they deserve, they've earned it! Hour long chase today before putting the cat up a leaning cedar. Cat didn't like me I guess and bailed into the dogs and the chase resumed. After a couple more hours of ground and pound through slash cuttings and cedar swamps I called it. Dogs 3- Cats 1, Good week!

We had quite a day in the bear woods yesterday with the hounds. Hunt number one ended fairly quickly with a c**n left up in a dry kye cedar. Hunt number two was quite productive with a very mature bear clinging to the side of a cedar tree 10 feet above our heads. The bear decided it didn't like us and came down. The dogs gave chase and the hunt was on! After a 20 minute flat out run the dogs had it up another tree. We drove as close as we could and proceeded on foot. On the way to the tree we happened upon a very unusual sight. It was a water hole, turned wallow, turned death trap. In this 10 foot circle wallow of water and peat, lay two bodies, a large cow moose and the hairless torso of another deer sized animal possibly her calf. It appeared that once in they couldn't climb out and succumbed. After a brief inspection we continued towards the dogs. We found the dogs at the base of a large poplar tree a half mile later that held our bear. After a well placed shot the bear expired instantly.
