The Boerboel is a South African breed of large dog of mastiff type, used as a family guard dog. It is large, with a short coat, strong bone structure and well-developed muscles. It is recognised by the Kennel Union of Southern Africa, but not by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale.

Did you ever wonder why some dogs suck on blankets, stuffies, etc.?

As we all know, pups are born with the natural instinct to suckle from their mom to get fresh milk. As time goes on, naturally the suckling ends as puppies grow BUT there are occasions where a pup may need the comfort of his/her mom, the comfort suckling provides.
This can’t be reproduced when a human (for example) bottle feeds a pup (only).

Its also thought that genetic may play a role in this behavior as Doberman Pinchers and Dachshunds have a greater propensity to nurse or chew on blankets, others or themselves (Sucking on themselves is called Flank Sucking).

The boerboel is a fierce guard dog with a dignified demeanor. They were bred to be aggressive defenders but are fully capable of distinguishing friend from foe.

Our frenchies get along great with our Boerboels. No fights. Theres alot of play, snd theres always respect (for the Boerboels).
