In this lesson, the goal was to help a horse that is blind in one eye to balance and relax on a narrow plank. When the horse or student struggled, Lissa would instruct, tag team, demonstrate, and/or diffuse the concern of either the horse or student. The trust between horse and human, body coordination, empathy for the horse’s decisions, and communication that student Nora continues to develop will be beneficial with all of the horses she works with. The lucky horse that got to work with talented student Nora was Hoolidancer.

In this lesson, student Adi began the journey of memorizing and feeling results from using lead, direct, indirect, plow, and enhancing reins. She also started learning how to coordinate different parts of her body including legs, thighs, pelvis, and core to influence the movement of the horse. For some students, the information gets understood better if physically shown how to move. Victoriosa was the lucky horse that helped teach that lesson.💗

“Make sure you adjust your bedside manner accordingly when approaching a stranger and attempting to touch them on the face, otherwise you are being creepy.” This is taught daily at the farm.
Watching Hans develop his gentle approach, pure intentions, and caring bedside manner with this young filly was relaxing to witness.

Canine Obstacle Arena at River Bottom Stables in Princeton, Iowa

All dogs must be on a leash. This is NOT a ‘let your dog meet other dogs’ situation. This is NOT a competition. Your dog does not need breed registration papers. During this lesson of saddling, bridling, lunging and mounting to then, developing a better a feel with connection, impulsion, timing, intention and safety, riding student Nora was as always very coachable. The horse she worked with on this day was Hoolarious. Great job Nora!

Earlier today, a 94 year old Steam Engine went by River Bottom Stables in Princeton, Iowa. So cool!

On occasion, it can be a dangerous event with some outside training horses to deworm them with a paste dewormer. Your approach can make it more or less dangerous the following time. In this video Lissa shares the uneventful, enjoyable goal of deworming horses. Always seek good professional help if you are struggling to deworm your horse.

This gelding got his name, Hoolarious, as a baby from being a biting prankster, being less than considerate to his mother, chasing butterflies, cats and dogs, and sliding to his knees from a run to go under the fence to worry his mom. It is remarkable to see how considerate he has become to young riders at River Bottom Stables. 💓Make sure your sound is on.

The holiday train went by River Bottom Stables with many vocal performers on it again this year. So exciting!

The frustration is real for so many amateur owners. This client expressed frustration that when she trailered her horse to the vets, clinics, or just on field trips, she was never sure how long it would take to get her horse in the trailer. Sometimes it would take hours to load him. At this trailer in lesson, Lissa showed her many techniques to make her gelding feel safe for future field trips without having to budget hours in preparation to go to or from the field trips.

River Bottom Stables is a training facility that trains students/clients how to train horses to better their horsemanship skills. Along the way students/clients develop their compassion, patience, drive, touch, bedside manner, feel, intuition, vibration, impulses, breathing techniques, proprioception, and most importantly, their coachability. Sneak peek in lessons at River Bottom Stables... One of this boy's goals in his goal notebook is to practice trick riding and/or vaulting. At the end of his lesson, Lissa gave him some training ideas to train her to be more forgiving for his younger siblings. He was thrilled with his capabilities.

Liam and Elijah

The ability to cope, follow directions, develop skills and enhance confidence was the goal of these young boys to their horses in their lesson. These horses were scared of the boys hanging on to poles less than an hour before this video. It is so fun to watch each boy develop his own skills in life. 💗 Elijah and Liam

John said, "Lissa, do you just lay awake at night and come up with ways you are going to teach me in my lesson?" Lissa said, "Yes. Today's goal in your lesson is for your butt not to slap the saddle at a canter." Way to go John!!!

First time with a garrocha pole lesson

In this lesson 12 year old Hadli developed her ability to ride one handed, introduced a garrocha pole to her new Arabian gelding, and memorized 8 different moves. What a girl!!!

Tempi changes lesson

In this lesson at River Bottom Stables, Leslie experimented with her timing, coordination, and finesse practicing her tempi changes with Ghazi. So cool!
