Lesson Horse Spotlight:

Hoolarious is a registered black bay Half-Arabian gelding. He was purposefully bred for and born at River Bottom Stables. The goal was to breed and have a horse that is capable of giving lessons in Saddle Seat, Show Hack, Hunter, Dressage, Jumping, Reining, Working Equitation, Western Dressage, Western Pleasure and Trail. He surpasses the goals by far. Hoolarious enjoys learning new things he can do with his body with enthusiastic students.
His black Half-Arabian mom, Baskoleeta, was also an asset in our lesson program. Look for a post about Baskoleeta’s time at River Bottom Stables in the future.
Hoolarious’ sire, Hooligan DGL, is a retired lesson horse of River Bottom Stables. Look for a future post about Hooligan DGL’s large influence at River Bottom Stables.
Hoolarious has a long list of his teaching specialties which partially include the art and skills of in hand work as well as riding exercises. On the ground he enjoys teaching the life lesson of paying attention. On his back his list is long of his teaching joys. Some of which are improving the rider’s balance on and off of a lunge line, lateral work, collection/extension work and obstacle exercises.
On occasion, he is available for lease to an aspiring competition student at River Bottom Stables.

From having a special hug in 2017 to exciting a little boy on his 2nd birthday, this Arabian filly exemplifies her name, Elegant Moment. The hug was from this little boy Shia’s great grandmother Kay Graham. This mare is owned and bred by long time student/client Leslie Flagel. 💗

In this lesson, the goal was to help a horse that is blind in one eye to balance and relax on a narrow plank. When the horse or student struggled, Lissa would instruct, tag team, demonstrate, and/or diffuse the concern of either the horse or student. The trust between horse and human, body coordination, empathy for the horse’s decisions, and communication that student Nora continues to develop will be beneficial with all of the horses she works with. The lucky horse that got to work with talented student Nora was Hoolidancer.

In this lesson, student Adi began the journey of memorizing and feeling results from using lead, direct, indirect, plow, and enhancing reins. She also started learning how to coordinate different parts of her body including legs, thighs, pelvis, and core to influence the movement of the horse. For some students, the information gets understood better if physically shown how to move. Victoriosa was the lucky horse that helped teach that lesson.💗

“Make sure you adjust your bedside manner accordingly when approaching a stranger and attempting to touch them on the face, otherwise you are being creepy.” This is taught daily at the farm.
Watching Hans develop his gentle approach, pure intentions, and caring bedside manner with this young filly was relaxing to witness.

Canine Obstacle Arena at River Bottom Stables in Princeton, Iowa
June 23rd 5pm-7pm
$20/dog Cash or Venmo
All dogs must be on a leash. This is NOT a ‘let your dog meet other dogs’ situation. This is NOT a competition. Your dog does not need breed registration papers. It is a train your dog at will over fun obstacles. If someone needs guidance, there will be a professional trainer on site. Message River Bottom Stables for sign up information.
