C O N F I D E N C E

Your horse is either helping you gain it, or keeping you from progressing towards it.

Training and riding is not a linear process. Sometimes we go backwards before we go forwards again. I always say as long as it’s in an upwards trajectory as an average your doing good! 👏

I also always say.. “a horse either has it in them, or they don’t”. It’s a black and white statement. It’s bold, but 95% it’s held true for me.

If your horses go to in a tough situation where they are uncomfortable is bucking, there’s a good chance you’ll never always fully get it out of them. Same with pullers, biters, kickers, rearinng, the list goes on.

Whether it’s 1 week, months, or years… odds are their “go to” behavior will rear it’s ugly head again if the right recipe presents itself to them.

It’s hard to change a horses INSTINCT. Some of them have stronger affinity’s for certain things than others. Doesn’t make them good or bad by default, but it definitely can in the wrong hands.

Trained behaviors have more hope at fixing than instinct I’ve found, depending on issue.

Regardless, I’ve seen horses with a literal hole in their whithers tolerate a saddle, and rider, in a competitive arena, and still win.

So when I see “Fluffy” get upset about you shifting in his saddle wrong and go to bucking, or “fluffy” biting you when you go to worm him, or “fluffy” chasing you out of the pen running backwards at you because you got in the way of another horse my usual response is..

Bye bye Fluffy ✌🏼

No horse is perfect, and they are all capable of dangerous behaviors, but when they are good, they are just good. Most times regardless of training. A good mind holds true. A good mind is something they are born with more than trained into.

It’s not always the horses fault, sometimes they are rotten because of the hands they are in, but if that horse is killing your confidence regardless of what they are doing. Move on.

Do yourself and that horse a favor.

It costs as much to feed the wrong horse as it does the right horse. 👌

Bana looks like a whole different horse now!

It’s always amazing the difference some good TLC and feed can do for a horse. ♥️

It’s a beautiful day for our last clinic of the 2024 season! 🍁 The Cowgirl Connection Clinic

We had the perfect spritz this morning to kill the dust in the arena and the sun is starting to poke out. ☀️

This weekend will include two full days of horse time and learning.

Saturday we will convene as a group to work on a structured approach to horsemanship and the connection it has with your horses biomechanics to help you achieve a better connection and understanding of your horse.

This is a great time to focus on elements you struggled with most the day before and will give you a detail orientated approach to help you achieve your goals. Participants are encouraged watch everyone’s personal session to get the most out of the day and cheer each other on.

Our 2025 Mounted Shooting Futurity prospect is

WE FLY AT DAWN

2021 Gelding
by Fly the Red Eye- AQHA Supreme Champion (AAA SI) x Palo Pinto Pame (Fischers Dash x Naturally Made) .

He is a half sibling to SV Flyin Red Rockets our red mare “Rhythm”. The similarities are striking between them physically and mentally.

He has grown up a lot this summer and been exposed to gunfire quite a bit since he was 2. We are excited for the season to start soon!

Jolee & Bee 🐝

This team set a goal to qualify for worlds this year and to make the big trip to Amarillo, TX.

At 25 years old Bee had a lot of firsts this year aside from TX. The longest trailer ride, the biggest arena, and atmosphere she’s ever seen and she took it all in stride. Bee was a rockstar and I know Jolee and all of us at the barn are so proud of what we affectionately call her “the old lady”.

She certainly doesn’t act like one, and continues to try and defy her age as much as possible.

Jolee and Bee finished in 4th place despite some misses and though we always go to win, just getting down there is an achievement in itself and keeping a horse this age sound enough to make this haul and compete is not always an easy task.

Congratulations on accomplishing the goal you set out for yourself Jolee! Your tenacity is inspiring to more than a few of us. 👏

Our History

B.R. Guest Stables is owned by Sheri & Matt Robertson. They purchased the stables in the summer of 2005. After renovating the property they opened the barn up to a few more boarders and we have had the privilege of caring for numerous horses ever since! Taylor & Breanne are Matt & Sheri’s daughters and grew up helping their parents take care of the stables while riding and competing on their own horses. Their journey with B.R. Guest Stables has been a lot of work, but has, and continues to be a rewarding adventure!

Sheri & Matt’s daughter Taylor Harper has been riding since she was a little girl and has always had a passion for horses. Taylor grew up competitively competing with her pony Ruby before transitioning to larger horses and numerous disciplines. Before the thought of pursuing a professional career as a horseman ever crossed her mind Taylor was continuously working towards bettering her horsemanship and seeking out as much equine knowledge and experience as she could. Her passion for horses eventually blossomed into what is now a full fledged equine business that is dedicated to helping you find a sustainable connection with your horse. Taylor continues to develop her skills and prides herself on being a versatile horseman and loves to compete in various disciplines.
