Gold-Rush The Golden Goose

Thrilled that Goose, on his first show weekend ever, won Winners Dog/Best of Winners for a major at the Rio Grande Valley Golden Retriever Club Specialty in Albuquerque yesterday! Owner handled by Kim Johnson.

Over the past seven days Goose has endured a 2000+ mile road trip with a fourty degree temperature increase, a new person and countless new experiences after being a country boy in New Jersey-hotel rooms, car repair shops, stranger’s homes, restaurant patios, noisy fairground buildings and a new place every time his car crate door opens-with the grace and aplomb of his primogenitor Gold-Rush Charlie. His likeness to Charlie, in looks and temperament, is breathtaking!

Mahalo Nui to Judge Linda Willard for this exciting start to his show carreer and to his other mom Amy Connor for letting him move in with me…

Aloha Golden Retriever peps-on this Friday, Saturday and Sunday I will be attending the Rio Grande/Coronado shows in Albuquerque New Mexico for my first time. I have NO knowledge of the site or set up for these shows. If there is anyone in the know here, my specific concerns are…

1.) How far from parking is the grooming area-I will be alone without a dolly so am wondering if I can carry grooming table/blower in easily. Along the same lines…

2.) How easy is it to secure a grooming space, is there electric available for blowers? I can’t come Thursday eve to set up. I’m showing just one class dog, so footprint would be minimal…

3.) what’s the time frame for fairground approach, parking and unloading? Thirty minutes, an hour? I’m coming from Santa Fe the first morning (Friday ) and am just trying to get a idea…

I plan to add time to arrival and parking as we have been advised the grounds have livestock and evacuees from the fires, and are a bit crowded…I just have no clue what so ever as to the usual load on and set up situation at this site

It was fun getting back into the show ring at the Honolulu Kennel Club this past week-end. So proud of Miss Katie, at her first indoor show and the tender age of 13 months, of taking Best of Opposite S*x and a 5 point major from the Bred By class!

The Gold-Rush Goldens and the Johnson family said “goodbye” yesterday to the Mercer Rd/Princeton house. There’s 50 years of holiday, celebration, gathering and of course, pup and people memories from that home to cherish. It also contained Ann’s extensive collection of Golden Retriever pedigrees and knowledge and the Gold-Rush history, records, stats and photos, all of which are currently being scanned and will eventually become an archival website about the Gold-Rush Goldens.

The Force is still with us and Gold-Rush kennels will continue on a more limited basis-several litters a year with Amy at Golden Goose Farm Golden Retrievers on the east coast and with Kim in California and Hawaii. We also have some fabulous show dogs just waiting for it to become safe to return to the shows.

The Princeton house is now under the protection of a lovely young family with a brand new baby-Ann would love that! May they enjoy many happy years in that magical place. They say that they want to get a dog as soon as possible-we are strongly advocating for a Golden, of course!

This is an invaluable means to research pre-internet Golden Retriever history in the USA. The collection MUST be picked up in Princeton New Jersey, I am completely unable to ship anything. If you really want the collection but cannot pick it up maybe find a Princeton local friend to get it for you.
