Meet Coral and her babies! We rescued Coral just after she gave birth at Mesquite Animal Services. She and her babies are in a warm foster home now, getting a lot of love and attention. Raising money for all the fur babies
Today’s the day! It’s North Texas Giving Day! We would like to thank everyone who has already donated – we are so grateful! Most of your donations go towards medical care. And some go to foster supplies – for sweet little kittens like Cinnamon and Snowball. And Fannie and Ashes. These babies arrive to us without a mom, so our dedicated fosters work around the clock to ensure they get fed and kept warm. All that milk replacement ads up, so we thank you for helping us continue our mission to help fragile and innocent little kittens like these. North Texas Giving Day

Foster Video
Good morning! As we approach @NorthTexasGivingDay, we would like to share a story from one of our Fosters.
"The first time I fostered a pregnant cat I was so excited. It had taken a year of training and coaching by the more experienced foster volunteers until the rescue felt I was prepared for the responsibility.
Then one day, the local shelter called about a very pregnant kitty who urgently needed a foster home. Mimosa was indeed very pregnant and after only two days in foster care, she gave birth to the most beautiful litter of seven kittens.
But then momma got sick with a virus that had hit the shelter like wildfire. Even despite being severely ill with calicivirus, Mimosa persevered in her duties as a momma. Luckily, Mimosa received prompt medical treatment and recovered in about a week. But then her two-week old kittens also contracted the virus.
That was the first time I lost a kitten while fostering. In fact, all seven of Mimosa’s babies eventually succumbed to the virus. It was devastating. This was not a happy foster ending at all!
Luckily, I had a wonderful mentor who supported me during this time. I told her I wanted to quit fostering. She listened patiently then asked me a question: why would you want to quit?
“Because I lost them all, every one of them.” She nodded and smiled and said “No you didn’t. You saved Mimosa.”
That experience and words of wisdom changed my perspective. It’s not always about saving every life. Rescue is about odds and improving chances, chances which improve significantly when an animal is brought off the street or out of the shelter system and into a foster home.
Pregnant momma cats present a unique challenge in rescue. They are still my favorite foster cases (the vast majority do have happy endings!) but they are especially high risk. Most are unvaccinated and susceptible to disease that often gets passed on to their newborns. And pregnant cats are virtual
Catrick and Catillac
CATrick Swayze and CATIillac arrived at Texas CARES from a local shelter where they were rescued with 50 other cats living in deplorable living conditions. These two were bonded in the shelter and we knew we had to keep them together and find a forever home together. Once out of the shelter, they thrived in their foster home and really began to know what being in a clean, calm home means. Unfortunately, CATrick became very ill and had to go to the emergency clinic. He had severe diarrhea and a very high white blood cell count. He spent several days hospitalized at the emergency clinic and then at his regular vet. Thanks to donations from you on North Texas Giving Day, we can help kitties like CATtrick. We are so happy he is doing well. And even happier CATrick and his brother, CATillac are doing GREAT in their forever home! Thank you for considering Texas CARES on North Texas Giving Day.

NTGD Kittens
As of September 1, we rescued 200 cats!
46 of them were adult kitties - and 6 of them were pregnant!
The other 154 were kittens! With that comes a lot of expenses like food and veterinary care. We can say “yes” to all of these rescues in no small part to your contributions. Won’t you help us continue to say “yes” and help more kittens and pregnant momma cats by donating on North Texas Giving Day? We invite you to watch this video that shows just a few of those sweet faces we were able to help this year. The kitties thank you.

Pongo Successful Surger
Here’s an update on Pongo! Dr. Roxanne Ratner of the Animal Ophthalmology Clinic and her staff did an amazing job and Pongo’s eye is healing nicely! This boy is full of energy, too! His Foster Mom is keeping a watchful on eye on Pongo to ensure his cone stays on, so his eye heals properly. He will see Dr. Ratner for a follow up visit in a few weeks! We are so thankful for your generosity to help us get Pongo the surgery he needed!

Marcie
You may remember Marcie. We rescued her from the shelter in Pilot Point. They let us know about this sweet kitty who had an injured eye and asked if we could help. We, of course, said yes. Marcie settled in well in her foster home and soon saw Dr. Ratner at the Animal Ophthalmology Clinic who determined her eye did not need to be removed immediately, but recommended we plan for the possibility. We reached out to our friends – YOU – and you helped us raise enough funds to get Marcie the surgery she might need one day. Her foster kept her eye lubricated while we helped to find Marcie the perfect home. And that she did! Marcie’s new mom named her Lena and she settled in well with her kitty brother, Enzo. Several weeks later, Lena’s eye showed signs of an infection. Her mom reached out to us, and as we assured her if the time came when Lena’s eye did need to be removed, we would use those funds you donated to get Lena the surgery she needed. We immediately contacted Dr. Ratner and got Lena into surgery. As you can see in the video, Lena is thriving. As her mom said, “she is not letting anything slow her down – she is living her best life now. She’s been a huge blessing to me and Enzo”. This makes our hearts so happy, and we are eternally grateful to all of you for helping us help Lena. The requests to help kitties like Lena never stop. Please consider a donation to Texas CARES on North Texas Giving Day. Every dollar goes to helping kitties like Lena. We thank you.
