Coturnix Quail cannot perch, for them it is physically impossible. They are a ground dwelling bird and they lack the tendon, muscle structure, & foot strength that allows them to grip. Therefore they will not use perches.

Some other quail species can perch well. Like bobwhites and they do enjoy that option. They do have the tendons, muscle strength in the foot that allows a grip. They are built differently.

So perches for Coturnix is a No. bobwhites and chickens Yes.

Hey Utah People (PLEASE READ)

For those who keep asking me to take in the “wild California quail babies you found without parents or rescued from your cats, dogs or whatever” I JUST got off the phone with the Utah Division of Wildlife and guess what? THIS IS EXTREMELY ILLEGAL and NO I cannot take them in and you should not be doing so either.

If you contact any Utah wildlife division they will tell you to put them back or in rare cases tell you to contact a rescue in Salt Lake City.

Buuuuuut when I inquired about taking the birds to SLC bird rehabs they said that even then the bird rescues usually don’t take in babies because they often die and the wildlife rescues use their resources on other bird types.

Also if you are caught with these native species without a permit you WILL be fined. Like I said, I spoke with the Utah Division of Wildlife this morning and I’m relaying the information they gave me. Don’t believe me? Call them yourself . But relaying the information is the best I can do for you. I’m trying to be matter of fact and not rude but you also have to understand I get multiple calls a week, every year for about 6 months for the last 5yrs and I’m growing tired of people not knowing this information.

Due to our family circumstances this year and serious health diagnosis for my husband that we don’t share openly we just can’t accommodate anything other than the farmers market and sharing info on our social media .

I’m hatching and adding Seal's Family Farm birds to my flock for this exact reason

Okay folks...who would like to see some teaser photos of some REALLY big birds thanks to Seal's Family Farm...we WILL be hatching more of these and also adding them to our permanent breeding stock...

We will post full pictures of these birds when hit 250 followers so make sure you share this and spread the news...and to sweeten the deal every person that comments and tags 2 people will get entered for a drawing for 2x 15ct of mixed hatching eggs(unfortunately Colorado local only on the eggs).
