Some of the recent ladies from my c-dilute(c-h and c-e) show type mouse line! We're on the f3 and f4 generations with these guys, and I'm finally getting some consistency in my results. Not as much as i'd like, but we're getting there!

The goal for these guys is gonna be type, primarily. Still trying to decide what c-dilute combo/phenotype I want tho. Definitely standard coats, no splash, yes to both black and blue, but then... do I want siamese? Colorpoint beige? Reverse siamese? Blue beige fox?

I just don't know yet🤔. I'll probably just keep selecting health/temperament/basic show type stuff for the most part, and see what color combos naturally come of it, and pick which I like best.

Reverse siamese tho... it's calling to me. Only issue? The majority of my goals involve selecting for DARKER points and exptremeties, and Reverse siamese is... Well,
The Reverse.
The struggle is REAL.

Don't mind the repeat post for those that saw this in mouse groups--I did add a fun before and after comparison collage at the end of u wanna see something new tho!

MOUSERY UPDATE!!

we have 8 litters so far, and 4 more ladies paired up!

I will be keeping adoptions closed for a while longer tho, with very rare exceptions until I feel more confident we're in the clear and have gotten back into the flow of things. Here's a little video for y'all that goes into more detail!

For anyone curious about genetics, I just made part 1 in a series of videos on fancy mouse genetics for ya!

There aren't many video resources for studying genetics out there, so I thought I'd make a messy little overview for anyone looking to learn.

Here's the link to part 1! I'll be posting part 2 for the color genetics section here soon!

We've got BEANS!!!

Litter #1 of this first generation after burnout. We'll know for sure if burnout worked as they age. Wish em luck!

Hi everyone!

Thought I'd jump in with an update for you all!

It's been an odd mix of chaotic and calm here at the mousery-- there haven't been any new litters to care for or pairings to plan for a good while now, but that extra time has been taken up by all the extra cleaning and quarantine planning I've been doing instead.

I've also taken this as an opportunity to refine some of my goals. I'll talk more about my plans for my lines later, but for now I'll say that I'm combining a couple of them, and reducing my lines to 2-3 rather than 4-5, so I can make more progress with the quality of each.

I'm currently also in the process of deep-cleaning my main mousery space, and fixing up my rack system for when everyone is ready to come back.

some more info on my current setup/plan:

For burnout, I have split my colony into two groups;

group 1 has all the mice that were already old enough to start burnout when I found out there may be an issue.

Group 2 are all the mice that were pregnant/born right around when I found out, and weren't able to start burnout till they were older.

The two groups have been quarantined from each other for the last couple months, and group 1 is finally nearing the end of the main portion of burnout! I'll be pairing some of the mice together from group 1 here soon, to test if burnout has worked.

Group 2 is gonna hafta wait a while longer--they'll remain separated in quarantine for at least 6 more weeks.

So we're slooowwwly getting there! Burnout should be over by late may. Sadly, even if all goes well, the first available mice wont be here until late June at the earliest. But we'll get there! I'm just glad I've still got a solid group of happy, healthy mice to select from.

Thanks for following along!

Please enjoy this video of my retired hairless lady.

Behold! The first generation of show agouti outcrosses! One of the last litters that's growing up here, born before I even knew about the lurking issues.

These pups are from the mice responsible for my predicament. I have litters from 3 of the florida ladies right now, and even with symptoms showing up in all 3 moms after they gave birth, they've somehow mostly recovered and managed to raise a small group of pups each.

In spite of the situation that got them here, I aaaaam really kinda sorta liking how they're coming along. Satin agouti is one of my favorite varieties, cuz they look almost ✨️iReDeScenT✨️, especially in person, and the rich pigment from this line (as well as the elegant type they have) makes for some very striking mice indeed. The size, temperament, and health(of course) could all use some improvement, but they bring some unique, lovely traits that would be awesome to start a line with.

Let's just hope a few of em turn out to be breeding quality once they've grown-- if I can manage to get some really nice agoutis out of this to start a solid show agouti line, it miiiight soften the blow just a weee bit

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

I am officially closing the mousery until May, or longer if needed, depending on how things progress with the MHV situation. This means no new mice in and out, and I will not be pairing any new mice. I will not be updating my waitlist or checking it much during this time, and I will likely not be all that good at responding to inquiries about mice either.

I will still make an effort to respond to previous adopters, and chat with those of you who have general questions or want breeding advice, but anything regarding availability and mouse sales will be on the backburner until everyone here is taken care of.

Thank you all for your patience. I wish this wasn't necessary, but I do plan to take advantage of this time to do some mousery renovations and refine my current goals. It's been about 8 months since I last adjusted my mousery goals, and I think it's about time I came up with some new ones based on what I've learned about my animals since then. Keep an eye out for updates, and thank you for following along!
