Do you let your dog on the couch?

When we first got our dogs there was a strict no dogs on the furniture rule. Over time our dogs wore us down and eventually they were allowed up on the couches by invitation only.

In our Board and Train Program we do not let training dogs on the couches. Instead we teach them how to settle and relax next to the couch on the carpet, or how to settle on Place. We don't have a problem with you having your dog on the couch if that's what you want. We just believe that couch time should be earned once the dog can demonstrate that they can follow the set rules and boundaries you set at home. That and, just like we did, most dog owners we work with start out not wanting the dogs to be up on the furniture with them. Everything we do is Training In Real Life, For Real Life.

Do you have an Off Leash Reliable Dog?

What I mean by this is, are you able to take the leash off you dog, in an appropriate and safe place, and know that they will come back to you when called, or even stay close by without running off, no matter what the distraction?

Out of the 5 personal dogs I have, 3 of them are completely off leash reliable, while the other 2 are still working on it. If you know my dogs, take a guess which 2 are still working on it in the comments.

Leave It is one of the most important and potentially life saving things you can teach your dog.

Can your kids walk your dog without being pulled over? When Duke came to us just a couple of weeks ago he pulled like a freight train, and he is STRONG!!

After learning how to respond to light leash pressure, rewards for making good choices, and lots of socialization and desensitization, Duke is now able to be walked comfortably by an 11 year old. In our program, when it is safe to do so, we utilize our kids to help us with training. Everything we do is Training In Real Life, For Real Life.

Does your dog know how to settle and relax around other dogs? Place is such a valuable skill to teach for these types of situations and can be used pretty much anywhere. Once Place is well generalized, you can have your dog "Place" on anything you want, anywhere you want.

In our training program, we regularly use logs, rocks, picnic tables, blankets, kennel mats, cots, dog beds, and anything else we can find to help dogs learn and generalize Place in different environments.

Where is you dogs focus when out for a walk? If your dog pulls on their leash, is distracted and lunging towards cars, bikes, scooters, longboards, strollers, people, and anything else that moves, then you need to come and work with us!

We don't teach the dogs to just watch us and nothing else when out for a walk, we work with them to help them feel comfortable around triggers and high level distractions. And we just love it when the dog checks in to make sure they are making good choices.

Loki and Simba both took the CGC test after coming to our group classes for the past few months and absolutely crushed it. Both owners have put in a ton of great work and training to help their dogs pass this test. Now on to the Community Canine.
