Shaping Cricket, my puppy, to go into his kennel. This is our second session (each session no more than 3 minutes), and he already gets it. Smart, little guy! And SO freaking cute.
Our little board and train puppy, Archie, rocking his recall in the middle of a play session! Such a good boy. ❤️
Roxie, my in training agility dog, ran her first full course today! The future is bright for this one. She is 14 months and has only been training with me for 4 months. I can't wait to take her to her first show.
Working my girl, Wicked, during this morning's class. ❤️
Running my girl, Ripley. Loving the distance on those weaves. ❤️
My little in training dog, Roxie, is catching on to agility lightening fast, and she is loving it! The future is bright for this one. 🤩
Have a puppy and want to get them ready for dog sports? Our puppy sport dog foundation class begins 9/7. This class will run for 8 weeks on Wednesdays at 10:00 am. There are two spots available. Note: This class is for pups 6 months and under.
Another post trial DQ (disqualified) video with all the amazing things my little rockstar did!
1. Confident, fast teeter
2. What a weave pole entry
3. She didn’t even look at the tunnel under the a-frame
4. Tunnel/jump sequence after the a-frame was fast and furious
I love this little girl! She gives me her all every time we step to the line. Her enthusiasm for the game is incredible.
The other stuff goes on the training list to be worked on tomorrow. Today, she gets to celebrate.
This was our standard run yesterday. To some who watch this, they will see all the “mistakes”, but what I see are all the brilliant things that happened.
1. Look at that start line!
2. I made it up there for the blind between five and six
3. Since my feet were not pointing correctly to the mouth of the tunnel, Rip went around to the other side. Yay! A month ago, she would have cut me off and taken the tunnel
4. Her contacts were brilliant
5. Three weeks ago, she was spooked of the teeter after something scared her at a show. Yesterday, she was so excited to get to the teeter that she couldn’t be bothered to take the tire jump.
Fast, happy, confident, connected. Those are the goals. Find the brilliance in every run you do.
❤️ my Ripley girl.
Playtime during our Puppy Class at Harden Ranch Veterinary Hospital!
Morning and evening mealtime enrichment for Indy: Eating out of toys!
Dogs are scavengers by nature, and they would spend a big majority of their awake time searching for food. This took an enormous amount of mental and physical energy.
What would normally take Indy 30 seconds or less to eat, now takes him 15-20 minutes! I feed a raw diet, so I like to use West Paws ZoGo Flex as it is easy to get the raw into. Kongs work great for other diets.
To make it more challenging, I refreeze the raw food after I pack it in! This can extend the meal time to 30-45 minutes.
Watch for tomorrow's post for some Kong stuffing ideas!
Let the enrichment and mental stimulation begin for Indy!
I have a young dog that just underwent knee surgery 3 days ago. His nickname is Spider-Man because he climbs everything. Keeping him mentally busy, while physically confined is my challenge for the next 8 weeks.
Phase 1: the snuffle mat
After hiding food in the fleece, he has to search out the cookies. The snuffle mat allows him to use his nose without moving around too much. He can also accomplish it with his donut on. Here Indy is having a little late morning snack.
At some point in most dog's lives, they will need to wear a cone. Indy is having knee surgery soon, so I am getting him ready to wear his cone by teaching him to put his head through it.
A little serpentine practice with my girl, Dakota J!
I have been working a retrieve with Indy, my pup. I think he has got it! 🐾
DLU's I'll Have Another, aka "Bailey", winning her first ever Steepelchase run last weekend.
Doing a little recall practice with Indy, the puppy, today. This was his first time doing recalls in a new environment. We think he rocked it! 🐾
We have a junior handler in the house! 10 year old Tyler had his first trial last weekend with Trick, a wonderful dog that Sue and Jim Dowell let him run. He faced ring challenges with a positive attitude and tackled the elite level course like a pro! Congrats, Tyler!
Josephine and "Truly" have come so far together, and just this last weekend got their Novice Rally title. These two are working as a connected team, and the payoff is a beautiful advanced course in class today! SO proud of you guys!
