Make them groom and tack their own horse.

A problem I see all too often is when parents are in a hurry to get their kids on and horses rode, so they groom and tack up for the kids.
There’s a time and place for this, yes.
However, every opportunity you have to let them do the hard work to get to the reward of the ride is key.
Help when they need it, let them get as far along as they can until they get stuck.
As soon as they are strong and big enough make them carry their saddle.
This creates character, work ethic and a true appreciation for the part of actually riding. 💕

Last week we covered basic horse health!
All of my students (big and small) learned how to take a horses vitals, what common issues arise when vitals are off, gut sounds, colic and colic prevention.
