Chance’s Story: A Second Chance He Deserves

Chance came to us through a transfer from the local city shelter. He wasn’t a candidate for their adoption program, so we stepped in to help. Found running down the highway with his little partner—who was accepted into their shelter’s program—Chance had a dedicated advocate who pleaded for his rescue. We knew we had an adoption pending and so we were abloe to make space for him. When we finally met him, we knew he truly deserved a second chance: a chance at life, hope, and a safe forever home.

An initial exam revealed several tumors on his body, including one on his leg that was confirmed to be cancerous. We recently had the tumors removed and sent for testing. Thankfully, by removing the tumors, Chance is now cancer-free! While there’s always some uncertainty with cancer, we are optimistic about his future and will monitor him with exams every three months to ensure no new lumps develop.

Chance has endured so much in his life. He arrived thin and worn down, likely from being hit by a car at some point, with injuries that went untreated. Yet through it all, his heart remains open. He still trusts humans and is ready to leave shelter life behind for the love and stability of a forever home.

At approximately 7 years old, Chance is a sweet and lovable boy who appears to do well with smaller animals. When he was found on the streets, he was accompanied by a small dog. While we’re optimistic, we plan to conduct further dog testing once the weather warms up.

Meet Odin: Looking for His Forever Home!

Odin may have had a tough start in life, but this 1-year-old brindle Shepherd mix hasn’t let that dim his spirit! He’s a sweet, loving boy who’s been let down by humans before, but he’s ready to find the perfect family to show him what true love and loyalty feel like.

Odin is dog-friendly and loves going on walks with his buddy Toby. While he gets excited and vocal around other dogs, it’s all part of his playful and enthusiastic personality. He would thrive in an active home and requires a 6ft privacy fence to keep him safe while he enjoys his outdoor adventures.

Mikey is an 8-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever who was returned to PAWS after his family had to move. Despite the changes, Mikey’s gentle and loving nature remains unwavering. He is calm, friendly, and enjoys the company of people of all ages, making him an excellent companion for families or individuals. 

Mikey thrives as the only pet in the home, where he can receive all your love and attention. With his strong build and sweet demeanor, he would do best in a home with a secure yard.

Leila’s journey has been filled with twists and turns, but her sweet and gentle spirit has remained unshaken. After being adopted into a loving home in 2023, unforeseen circumstances meant her family could no longer care for her, and she was returned to us. While it wasn’t the outcome we hoped for, we’re more determined than ever to find Leila the forever home she truly deserves.

In 2022, Leila was the nurturing mom of the Valentine’s Day Litter, which included our beloved Rosie. Her gentle nature and charming personality have made her a favorite among staff and volunteers alike.

But Leila is struggling right now. There’s a deep sadness in her eyes, and it’s heartbreaking to see. She’s hesitant to go back into her kennel after time outside, and we can tell her heart is longing for the love and comfort of a forever family.

Leila has so much love to give. She did well with a family member’s dog who came over often, and she was fantastic at the groomers. She adores belly rubs, leisurely walks with playful rolls in the grass, and snuggling up with our lead volunteer, Diane.

Leila is a loyal and loving companion, ready to bring endless joy to her new family. Please help us find her the forever home she has always deserved.

Meet Baxter – Your Next Best Friend!

Baxter is a spirited and affectionate 1-year-old Rottweiler/Pit mix with an endless capacity for love. Thanks to our friends at Highway 50 Freedom Ride, Baxter was rescued just in time from a shelter and brought to us here at PAWS. Now, he’s ready to find his forever family!

Baxter is one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet. He’s done well with other dogs and enjoys walking alongside his buddy Major here at PAWS. He loves going on pack walks with his pal Amber and walks well on a leash. However, he can occasionally redirect his energy, so he’ll benefit from continued training to perfect his leash manners.

With the perfect balance of energy and calm, Baxter loves to play and romp around but is just as content to kick back and relax. While he can be a bit shy around men initially, he warms up quickly and is eager to share his love and loyalty.

To keep this playful pup safe during outdoor adventures, his future home will need an approved secure fence.

We are thrilled to share the amazing news that Mr. Milk, now lovingly renamed Piccolo, has found his forever home!

Milk was returned to us almost a year and a half ago through no fault of his own. Now, he’s been given a second chance with a wonderful family who adores him.

We couldn’t be happier for this sweet boy and wish him a lifetime of love and happiness in his new chapter. You’ll be deeply missed, Mr. Milk, but we know you’re exactly where you belong!
