We initially began our bird dog obsession with Labrador Retrievers many years ago; however, after numerous years of agony and heartbreak due to poor genetic health of the breed. We decided to seek a different breed; that is when we found the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. Our Griffs have a strong drive, excellent temperament, superior nose, and a proper coat. We believe in Form and Function...proper

confirmation translates to less injuries as well as endurance, stamina, and efficiency in the field. All our breeding stock have had their hips tested and have proven to be at the top their breed. In addition, we have either tested all our breeding stock to ensure they are KBKB or that they are KBKB by parentage. The eyes on our breeding stock are OFA clear, elbows and thyroid are OFA normal, and all our dogs are dual registered NAVHDA & AKC. We hunt test our dogs through NAVHDA and AKC as we believe this is an important factor in determining the biddability of our breeding lines. Many talk breed preservation, we stake our reputation on it. To date, we have earned a NAVHDA Breeders Award for every litter we have produced. We hunt our dogs hard every week during bird season because the reality is hunting and hunt testing are two very different environments and, in many cases, require different skill sets and traits in the dog to be successful. As the saying goes, if you’re going to purchase a dog, buy one from a breeder that does your intended purpose for that dog successfully with their own dogs. Temperament is also top of our list in our breeding program because hunting season is only so long; therefore, your Griff must be a pleasure to be around in any environment. However, to ensure this remains the case, anyone acquiring a Griff must be sure to give them a job and provide effective leadership. If they aren’t given a job or don’t receive the mental and physical stimulation they require, they will become a ball of pent-up energy and behavioral issues will follow. They are definitely not a Lab as many Google searches suggest! They are not happy laying on the couch 100% of the time. They are very adaptable to many different environments when proper consideration is given to their needs and if they aren’t hunted, they will find a way to hunt on their own. Be it chasing down a skunk, a rabbit, stalking a bird feeder, whatever the case, they will find a way. We believe in breeding true to the breed and preserving their original purpose. We breed to enhance the skills and traits required to be “The 4-Wheel Drive of Bird Dogs”; therefore, we do not sell Griffs to nonhunting homes. Our ultimate goal in breeding is to breed a Griff with the soundest confirmation possible so it can properly perform its job without breaking down, while maintaining stable temperaments, the hunting versatility and the health of the breed enabling them and their hunting partner to enjoy many years of making memories. Needless to say, we are passionate about our dogs and trying to do our part to better the breed! Anyone is welcome to visit our kennel and meet our dogs and us at any time. We are an authorized dealer for Garmin and SportDog; therefore, if you need any recommendations for training tools or equipment, please do not hesitate to ask.

Miss Jaxx had a great day yesterday earning a Prize 1 112/112 in her NAVHDA Natural Ability Test! Jaxx will be hanging around for some more advanced training so she can start her career as a guide dog this coming Fall with Reggie Tokarski. Thank you Reggie and Kyle Tokarski for letting us steal your girl for a bit!! She knocked it out of the park. Even on the track where Kelley tripped, fell and let go of her, she didn’t miss a beat. She’s an AMAZING girl! 😂❤️

ATTENTION NEW PUPPY OWNERS…….
I wanted to touch base on a common issue that breeders come across with new owners.
REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS-
You see the breeders pictures and videos and the pups are all social. They are quiet in the pen. The breeder shows you videos of them being totally relaxed, happy, playful. All looks amazing and you bring your puppy home.
Then reality hits. The puppy may cry in the crate for the first few nights making you tired and agitated. The happy social puppy is refusing to greet the half dozen overly excited friends you invited over to see your new puppy. Or the overly excited playful children you have at home. The puppy refuses to walk on a leash. Many are wondering how did my perfect puppy turn into a nightmare.
So let’s discuss realistic expectations of when a puppy goes home.
-First of all the puppy has been in the breeders home since birth. They had their mother and littermates. They had their routine, were taught expectations and were completely in their comfort zone.
Now suddenly they are taken to a totally new environment. Picture yourself being dropped into an unknown country, in a different part of the world. You know only a few words of their language. Different sounds, smells, temperature, animals and people.
Now in the middle of this we are switching up your routine, possibly decide to have a party with people you don't know, and ask you to do jobs you have no idea about. Overwhelming to say the least.
This is what every puppy goes through when going to their new home. Stress manifests in different forms. From not eating, reluctancy to play, and greet people. Being apprehensive at the vet’s office or as strangers reach for them. Diarrhea, vomiting and depression can occur.
So what can you as a new owner do to help your little one acclimate?
- most puppies take 3-4 weeks to acclimate to their new home. Repeat after me THREE to FOUR WEEKS sometimes even Longer! Not a 1-2 days. I can’t stress this enough about how much time is needed for a dog or puppy to feel comfortable in their new home!
PLEASE limit guests during the first two weeks. We understand you are excited to show off your new baby but they need time to adjust. Plan on waiting 1-2 weeks before inviting people over.
- ask guests to remove their shoes before entering the home to prevent germs from spreading to your new vulnerable puppy.
-have guests sit on the floor/ground and wait until the puppy approaches them. NO squealing and grabbing the puppy, as this is very frightening to them.
- set up a good routine
- restrict the puppy to a small area of the house. This not only reduces them being overwhelmed but also allows you to watch them
- don’t expect a 8-12 week old puppy to walk on a leash. Instead work at home with a leash where they are comfortable. Let them drag the leash, use treats to encourage them to walk with you
- if your puppy is refusing to walk give them a good amount of time.
- understand your puppy needs time to see you as family. Expecting an immediate bond is unrealistic. They will need to establish who the leader of the pack is in order to feel safe and understand the hierarchy of the family unit.
- train your puppy. This not only helps you to bond but the puppy to look to you for direction and input.
-Children are also big stressors to tiny fragile puppies, please keep an eye on children around the puppy at all times. The children may need to learn how fragile the puppy is and how scared it may be.
- lastly, most importantly- BE PATIENT. Don’t declare “omg there’s something wrong with this dog”. Nothing occurs overnight.
Outings should be planned after the puppy has received ALL vaccinations and then only at the puppy’s speed. So while you might imagine a fun walk around the lake in reality your puppy might only be able to handle walking a short distance that day. They may be curious and energetic, they may become overwhelmed. Watch the puppy for cues on how to proceed.
Most outings for me take a long time, as I am often just standing still as the puppy cautiously explores the new environment. Patience is key!
Remember if the puppy was wonderful at the breeder’s house but now is struggling, you as the owner, need to help the puppy adjust which takes time, patience and training. Have realistic expectations and give the puppy positive feedback and happy experiences. Each puppy is an individual, don’t compare your current puppy to past pets and judge their behavior based on how another dog handled things. Lastly, try to see thing’s from a puppy’s perspective and adjust situations accordingly.
Love your puppy and they will love you 100 times more in return.

This little girl in VERY limited showing…one day in January and the Indy Cluster in February has managed to come in tied for 6th place in the rankings for Breed, tied for the 2nd place female Breed and 10th place for All Breed at the young age of 19 months old! 🥰🥰 Thank you ladies - Tammy Szabo, Hannah Ralston and Holley Eldred for handling her! It won’t last long as she won’t be back in the ring for quite some time because she’s busy in the field but pretty cool nonetheless!

🎉🎉 Pending AKC approval announcing our newest AKC Grand Champion…18 month old Sulli - GCH CH Shiok Ridge’s Next Gen Rockstar NA1 ❤️❤️

Sulli took a leave of absence upon obtaining her Championship last summer for hunting season. She made short work of obtaining her Grand Championship upon returning to the ring! 7 days in the show ring, 8 shows - 6 majors - 3 Best of Breeds, 2 Best of Opposite Sex’s and 2 Selects… Her time in the show ring has again come to an end as she will be training for the NAVHDA Utility Test this coming Fall.

Thank you Hannah Ralston, Tammy Szabo & Holley Eldred for taking care of my girl in Indy last week and to all the judges for the recognition.

You’ll never regret the time and effort you put in with your dog training for this test. No matter what the final outcome of the test scores are, you and your dog will form a hunting partnership that will last a lifetime.

We’ve ran this test 10 times and each and every one of our dogs is better for it, even though they’ve all taken different paths to the goal of a Prize 1.

I get a weird twitch when I see my puppies using a harness.
A harness is meant for sled dogs to pull. Your dog should walk next to you or infront of you without pulling. A harness will never teach them to not pull. A no pull harness will affect the way your dog grows and walks.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

Our dogs and all our pups had some AMAZING achievements this past year…too many to list, but we are so very proud of each and every one of them!

In the coming year, we have some lofty goals set for these four kids:

Sulli will be training, along with some of her littermates, for the NAVHDA Utility Test as well as getting back in the ring to obtain her AKC Grand Championship.

Baz will be training for the prestigious NAVHDA Invitational in hopes of obtaining his Versatile Championship.

Yeti will be returning to the show ring to finish her AKC Grand Championship as well as training for the NAVHDA Utility Test.

Stig will be finishing his AKC Grand Championship and running in the NAVHDA Natural Ability Test.

And as always, all the kids will be enjoying the 2024 hunting season!

Best wishes to all our Friends and Family in the New Year!
