🎉🐾 Big News! Burt Has Found A Home!🐾🎉

After 79 long days at the shelter, our sweet Burt, now renamed as Jack, has finally found his forever home! 🏡❤️ From the first day he walked through our doors, we knew he had a heart full of love to give. And now, Jack is ready to share that love with his new family!

Thank you to everyone who supported Jack on his journey – whether it was with a kind word, a helping hand, or just by keeping him in your thoughts. 💕 We couldn't be more excited for his next chapter.

Here's to many adventures, belly rubs, and all the joy in the world, Jack! 🎉🐾 You’ve found your place, and we couldn’t be happier for you and your new family!! 💖

❄️🐾 Meet Artic – A Sweet Whippet & Catahoula Mix Looking for His Forever Home! 🐾❄️

This handsome boy, Artic, has already won our hearts after 31 days at the shelter, and we just know he’ll win yours too! He’s a lovable, friendly dog who is up to date on all of his shots, housebroken, and leashed trained. Artic gets along wonderfully with both other dogs and cats, and he absolutely adores all people, including kids! 💙

Artic is currently available for foster-to-adopt until he is neutered, and we’d love for him to find a safe, loving home while he continues his heartworm treatment. While he is heartworm positive, he’s receiving the care he needs, and with treatment, he will be back to full health in no time! Artic is also currently dealing with "happy tail" and it will be getting treated during his neuter appointment. 🩵

Meet Kyle: The Best Boy Around! 🐾

This beautiful brindle Pitbull, Kyle, has been at the shelter for 33 days and is ready to find his forever home! 🏡

Here’s a little about Kyle:

- 🐕Dog Friendly: He loves playing with other dogs and would thrive in a home with another furry friend.
- ✅Housebroken: No accidents here! He’s a well-mannered pup.
- 🚶‍♂️Leash Training in Progress: Kyle is still learning the ropes of leash walking, but he’s making great progress and loves going on walks.

It’s a paws-itively perfect day at the shelter as the dogs are having a blast in the snow! 🐾❄️ From zoomies in the fluffy white drifts to rolling around in the cold goodness, they are living their best winter life! ⛄️❤️

They’re all loving the snowflakes and making the most of every moment of frosty fun. 🐕💨 Whether it’s chasing after snowballs, digging into the snowbanks, or just sitting pretty to catch a snowflake on their noses, these pups are in pure bliss! 🐶💙

🌟 Purdy Update! 🌟

We are so thrilled to share some heartwarming news about Purdy, our skittish German Shepherd who has been making huge strides in just 2 days thanks to her amazing foster family! 💕

Here’s what her foster had to say:
"She is doing so well! She’s in the house with us now. I was able to get a harness on her after a couple of hours by slowly introducing it and letting her walk around with the leash attached to desensitize her. She went outside to use the bathroom and didn’t have any accidents inside, which would’ve been totally okay if she had. She got plenty of good treats and food, and she even came right up to my dad when he got home from work! She has a safe space in a large kennel in the spare bedroom, but she’s been hanging out with us from a distance. By the evening, she finally came out, laid down in the kitchen, and took a nap."

Fosters like this incredible family are life-changing for dogs like Purdy ❤️.

They provide patience, love, and a safe space that helps these dogs overcome their fears and discover how wonderful life can be.

We are so grateful for all our fosters who open their hearts and homes to animals in need. Thank you for helping us give Purdy and so many others the second chances they deserve. 💛

Due to the upcoming snow, the Giles County Animal Shelter will be closed this Friday and Saturday. We have made arrangements with our Animal Control Officer to provide courtesy rides for our employees if needed, ensuring that all the dogs at the shelter are properly cared for during this time.

We are open today and tomorrow 10am to 3pm

🐾❄️ All Our Dogs Are Safe and Warm! ❄️🐾

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, every single dog at Giles County Animal Shelter is now inside or in foster care as we prepare for the cold weather ahead.

A special shoutout to Purdy, our sweet but timid girl, who was the last dog in an outside kennel to find a foster home. Purdy isn’t leash-trained and is extremely shy, but she doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body. To safely transport her to her foster home, we used a humane live trap—a safe and effective way to help frightened dogs who may be too nervous to approach people directly.

We are so grateful to our fosters, volunteers, community and supporters for ensuring all our dogs are warm, safe, and loved this winter. Your kindness makes all the difference! 🐶❤️

🎉 2024: A Year of Growth and Accomplishment at Giles County Animal Shelter 🎉

As 2024 came to a close, we’re proud to reflect on the incredible progress we’ve made, thanks to our amazing community of supporters, fosters, volunteers, and rescue partners. Here’s a snapshot of what we achieved together in 2024:

🐾 2024 Totals:

Adoptions: 75
Intakes: 276
Returned to Owners: 30
Transferred to Rescue Partners: 149
Euthanized (for health or safety reasons): 27
Free Pet Vaccines for the Community: 45
🚨 Our dedicated Animal Control Officer (working through the Giles County Sheriff’s Department) responded to an incredible 804 stray, welfare, and service calls, partnering with the shelter to help animals in need.

✨ Facility and Program Improvements:

Launched a new foster program and volunteer dog-walking initiative.
Fresh paint brightened the kennels, office, and bathroom.
Installed plumbing and electrical upgrades for a new dog wash sink, utility sink, washer, and donated dryer.
Hosted free vaccine clinics with the support of Petco Love, benefiting pets in the community.
Together, we achieved no-kill status with a 90% live release rate, a milestone we’re so proud of! Thank you to everyone who played a role in making 2024 such a transformative year for our shelter and the animals we serve.
