โMy time at Oklahoma Horseshoeing School was an unforgettable experience. During the 12-week Advanced Horseshoeing Course, I gained the knowledge and experience to not only proficiently shoe many types of horses but also to build a multitude of shoes, understand the anatomy that needs to be supported, and be knowledgeable about many types of lameness to shoe and manage them correctly.
At first, I was a bit skeptical about how the classwork would be, given that a new class starts every Monday. I learned very quickly that it works out in the students' favor. Continuously having students that you can go to for help, not only with the classwork but also with the forge work, is a huge benefit. I also learned that as I advanced during my time there and more students started asking me for help, it helped me learn and improve because I was consistently applying the knowledge and skills I had gained and helping other students. That alone really boosted my success during my time there.
The instructors are amazing! Not only do they dedicate themselves to providing you with the best start in this career as possible, but they also go above and beyond by holding forge nights throughout the week, always willing to go out of their way if you need more help with classwork, and taking their time with students to ensure they can do things safely and correctly.
While at the school, students who are doing well in their course also get the opportunity to ride with many different, very successful Farriers in the area to gain more experience outside of the school setting and in the real world. After a day full of shoeing and 103 degree heat, we proposed the idea of canceling Forge Nightโฆthen the students protested and wanted to work. Developing dedicated, passionate horseshoers is our goal and these students prove it every day!
