February 2, 1995 - the day before a blizzard was due - I received an early birthday gift. We got the car and headed out to North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, NY for me to pick out my very first dog, that was completely mine. Upon arrival at NSAL, my eyes went directly to a 16 week old yellow lab/shepherd mix. I picked him up and immediately knew he was the one for me. I didn't even loo

k at another dog. My mother asked me, "are you sure you don't want to look a little?" With a lump in my throat, I shook my head no. "This is it, mom. This is my dog"

My parents filled out the paperwork, made a gracious donation and from that moment on, my life was altered forever. A new "me" was born. I was always an avid animal lover, but my passion for animals multiplied a hundred fold as my love for Oliver grew. Oliver came to me at a very difficult time in my life, and saw me through many more. He came with me every where I could possibly bring him, and when I couldn't he waited faithfully for me at the door when I returned home. We had a bond that was unlike any I had ever known and in the 10 years I was blessed to have him it only grew by leaps and bounds. The unconditional love and devotion I got from my Oliver made me want to do more, to be more. I swore I would one day have my own rescue - for all those other animals tossed aside, like Oliver and give them the opportunity to be loved and cared for as they deserved. On October 4, 2005, I lost my best friend. Oliver passed away early in the morning due to an aneurism. We never saw it coming, and he just received an A+ on his "Senior" profiling. A huge part of me died that day, a part of me that I knew I would never be able to get back. I was grateful for the 10 years we had together, but devastated that I would no longer be able to bury my face in his fur and cry when my heart was breaking, or have him jump on me, paws on my shoulders when I was excited about something and we would 'dance'. I swore, his memory would live forever and I would devote myself to animal rescue. I have worked with many organizations in the past, but now is the time for me to move forward and make our dream of Oliver's Orphan Oasis come true. Please, help support me, Oliver and our cause. We also have future plans to have our Orphans work with special needs to children to begin a much needed bond for both.
