Mama’s kits are doing fantastic! They are 2 weeks old now, and there are two with the Rex fur. The others are fluffy, but all are just adorable 🥹

This handsome bu**er is looking for new grounds! I decided I didn’t need 3 bucks for my 3 does… although I wish I did! I just LOVE their temperaments and personalities.
This REW standard Rex buck is 6 months old.

Well, this is a first.

My sweet girl has what I think is mastitis, I noticed a swollen chest during my morning rounds. I brought her in immediately and massaged her chest while I had cabbage leaves rest on her. She’s never liked being held much, but today she willing let me bring her inside and put her on her back. She knew I was going to help her. She’s just the sweetest girl! I love her so much. Anyway, after a while, I bring her back out and check her nest and find TWO kits missing, and I frantically search everywhere for them, but they could not be found. I have a suspicion that we have a rat(s) around that took them, if they somehow fell through the wire. I’m heartbroken this morning. Although our rabbits are purposed for meat, we still love our little herd, and each one matters. 💔

As the day goes on, I’ll continue to monitor Mama and bring her in a couple more times to do cabbage leaves and epsom salts on her swollen glands.

If there are any suggestions for better rodent traps that don’t involve poison, let me know! We’ve tried the snap traps, sticky traps, and the flap trap that drops the rodent in a bucket of water—but none have worked! These rodents are too smart for these dang traps!

This video isn’t for the weak stomach peeps out there, but it’s the reality of life.
Mama is proving to be a wonderful mother, the two dead kits are not her fault. She did try to clean them and cover with fur. It’s always a sad day when you find babies that don’t make it.
But the 8 in the nest are doing great, and I’ll continue to monitor them daily! 🥰

Finally, hair pulling! That means babies coming 🔜! ❤️
Little Miss Mama will be having her first kindle soon, and we’re praying for a smooth, quick, and easy delivery for her.
Once I put the fur in the nesting box, she hopped right in and started pulling more.

This is Mama. She hasn’t had any babies yet, but she’s an up and comer. So sweet, she has her dad’s temperament, and hopefully her mom’s mothering skills. She is our last mutt, but I plan to breed her with Truffle to improve our meat line.

We started with a pair of meat mutts in 2021, and now two years later, we have a small rabbitry going with what little space we have available in our backyard. Fit with 2 does and 1 buck, and adding another doe this year. We primarily have Rexes now.

If you’re debating about whether or not to get into rabbits, whether it’s for pet pleasure, meat for consumers or raw feeders, or working with pelts, you can’t go wrong with rabbits. They’re quiet and simple creatures, and wonderful little companions! ❤️

Meet our lead buck, Truffle, who will be a year old in June. He has fathered one litter so far, but has produced beautiful, big kits! He is a standard Rex, black otter color. He is a very sweet boy! NFS
