Did you know that dog aggression might really be fear? Or that what looks like separation anxiety might just be FOMO? (That’s “fear of missing out” for the acronym-challenged. 😊)
Just like human behavior, a dog’s outward behavior can mask its true cause.
Why should you use a professional dog trainer if your dog is having behavioral issues? Behavior consultants and dog trainers would look at multiple signs. They look at a dog’s postures, vocalizations, intent, triggers; behavior before, during, and after an event.
For example:
• What does the dog’s body language say? Is his tail tucked? Ears down?
• Or is his tail wagging in a slow, flat rhythm? Is his body weight forward?
• Is the dog doing damage around doors and window sills? Are there drool marks on the floor?
• Or is she shaking off the effects of a nice nap as she happily greets you on your return?
No one knows your dog as well as you do. Behavior consultants and dog trainers can put that knowledge in context, adding information from learning theory, physiology, and canine development to get the fullest picture of what’s happening.
They then work with you to help your dog feel safe and happy.
