Recently media has been reporting a “mysterious respiratory virus” causing illness and death among the canine population in Oregon and other states. Investigation into these cases is still ongoing.
Affected dogs are presenting with coughing, sneezing, ocular and/or nasal discharge, and lethargy. A virus is suspected, but common respiratory diagnostics have been largely negative. Viral respiratory diseases can be highly contagious diseases and are spread through respiratory droplets and close contact.
Prevention, including vaccination and good hygiene, is the best method for respiratory diseases Vaccinations such as Bordatella (kennel cough), parainfluenza, and canine influenza are effective in protecting your pet against upper respiratory infections.
Dogs should be vaccinated routinely and kept up-to-date, especially if they commonly go to daycare, grooming, boarding, dog parks, or other activities that include large numbers of unknown dogs. Consider other preventative actions including avoiding areas where dogs congregate, avoiding the use of communal water bowls, and reducing contact with sick dogs.
If your pet is showing any signs of respiratory infection please contact us immediately.
Due to the highly contagious nature of these diseases, we may ask you to wait in your car until a room is available.

Handsome love bug, Toby, from Jaxs Labrador Retriever Rescue is looking for his furever home! 🐾❤️
Some highlights about Toby:
• A pro foot warmer 🦶🏻
• A great exercise partner 🏃🏻♀️
• Fully house- & crate-trained ✅
• VERY handsome 🤩
• A good listener (for commands & gossip - don’t worry, he won’t tattle) 🤫
• A total snuggle bug & master cuddler 🥰
• A rockstar with training (he LOVES treats)! 🎸
• The ultimate road trip companion 🚙
• 2.5 years young 🎂
• Playful, loyal, fun, & energetic 😄
• A lover of the outdoors 🌲
• A 100% certified good boy 💯😎
His ideal home is on the quieter side without young children or other pets. However, Toby is good with other big dogs for his play style (a meet with your dog will be required). 🐶
After a rocky start in life that would have soured most dogs on people in general, this sweet boy is more determined than ever to find his pawfect person/family. He can’t wait to meet them! 🥰
If you are interested in adopting Toby, please paw the link in our bio to submit an online application through Jaxs Labrador Retriever Rescue today! 📝 For additional questions, please contact Jax’s Lab Rescue at [email protected] 📧
(p.s. - Toby has his own page! ➡️ Toby's Journey Home. Here, you can find videos of him in his training and just living his best life)! 😊
Please keep an eye out for this sweet little girl. I received an email she was seen near abouts or location. Let's help her get home❤

Meet Mugsy, one of our shelter residents available for adoption
Mugsy is a recent addition to our shelter, who was surrendered when his family moved oversees and were unable to take him along. Unfortunately during the vetting process it was discovered that Mugsy is positive for feline leukemia.
We are very sad for Mugsy because we know just how much harder it will be for him to be adopted as Mugsy would either need to be adopted into a home with no other cats or one with other cats with the virus. Sadly our shelter does not have separate accommodations for cats with feline leukemia and Mugsy must remain isolated in a cage until he finds a home to go to.
Mugsy is a very sweet and good boy. When given the chance he tries to crawl out of his cage and onto volunteers laps for cuddles and just craves attention.
He is 9 years old and is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.
Mugsys adoption fee has been waived. Any inquiries for adoption please reach out to us at [email protected] or 610-432-2532 ext 6

Our featured underdog of the week is Red. This precious boy has spent 500 days at BCHS... With his time here, he has built such a strong connection with staff and volunteers. Red's adoption fee is WAIVED for the month of October thanks to
When Red came to us he was fearful of new people, so who knows what circumstances he came from. He has been making HUGE strides in trusting people quicker, but he does need people to understand that a few visits are needed. Red needs someone who will go at his own pace (with lots of cheese). He is such a special dog and he's so grateful to those that give him a chance. He will show you his appreciation with many kisses. 💋

Acorn Valley: Pet Boarding Facility For Cats & Dogs
Situated on 64 beautifully landscaped and wooded acres in Upper Bucks County, the kennel is located between Routes 309 and 313, just south of Quakertown, PA. We have a magnificent wooded trail for walking your dog, situated along a scenic stream, which is available to our customers anytime.
The Kennel is immaculately maintained. It is disinfected and power washed every day. No bleach is used at Acorn Valley as bleach can burn animals’ pads and eyes.
There are NO CAGES at Acorn Valley. Every dog boarding run is 18’ long. Your pet will receive LOTS of exercise! Since Acorn Valley is an indoor kennel, your pet has use of the entire 18’ run all day and night.
Our Cattery is very sunny and spacious, with each cat having his or her own time during the day to exercise and take in the view on our windowsills.
The staff at Acorn Valley are dedicated to providing a comfortable and spotlessly clean environment for your pet, in which he or she will receive lots of exercise both indoors and outdoors, and a great deal of personal attention.
