's sweet boy Ca$h had his shoes pulled, feet trimmed and front hooves casted to allow his soles to thicken and toughen up.
and did a tremendous job as always! 🥰

His back feet had some thrush, his frogs are severely atrophied and has some white line disease so we will be treating him aggressively with Tomorrow and Thrush Buster.

The last photo is Ca$h "banking" his bedding under his back hooves to cushion his low heels for support.

It will take him a little bit to grow some heel and then realize he doesn't have to "bank" his bedding to be comfortable with his back hooves.

Katelyn is doing a great job with him!

Just another step in rehab and re-training!
Can't wait to see this guy fully healthy and re-trained! 🦄🩵
So blessed to help these two become a superb team!

Horses are highly intelligent and sensitive animals. I speak to my horses all the time and their body language and facial expressions change in accordance to our conversation.
Most humans do not give animals enough credit in the intelligence department.
I love speaking to my horses and seeing their responses. Perhaps, I will endeavor to make my own video one of these days.. We shall see!

A former student of mine sent this poem to me a few weeks ago.
She noticed I hadn't posted it yet.
She contacted me this morning and asked me to please post it.

I balled my eyes out at reading it. I'm so darned proud and so thankful she has turned around and has accomplished a lot and overcome hard obstacles!

Let me tell you about a trainer who gives their heart and soul to every single equine and human that she encounters... I didn't appreciate her when I was a tween age student.
Now I'm older & wiser. This is my apology to her. I will leave it to her to post or keep private. It is my wish that she posts this.
Even this little foreward...

Once was a foe, now a fan.
I just didn't understand.

Young and immature, I spoke ill of her
My motives anything but, pure.

Over time and hopping barns, I learned the hard way she meant me no harm!

Instead, she poured our her heart, her soul. What she taught me, it was pure gold!

Oh! How I wish I headed her words, and learned her ways
But, being stubborn and strong, instead I strayed.

YouTube and Insta were my gods.
Now remembering some of her words,
my memory jogs.

I see the wrong ways repeatedly being taught as gospel.
Why?! why was my attitude so bad? So hostile?

Her students fear her eyes.
For they see every flaw.
Each unbalanced step and seat, busy hands, busy feet.

Patient and kind is her way.
Bringing along horse and human day by day.

Expertly instructing future horsemen for the sake of every equine.
She fears where the industry is headed.
She says, we're running out of time!

A passionate advocate for every horse and human fortunate enough to find her.
I was wrong so wrong. Prickly like a burr!

Tucked away in a small, unassuming barn, horses of all types swoon by her charms.

She's worked wonders with horses others gave up on..
She does not toot her own horn.
She shows by example to get horse and human into the best form.

She knows horses from head to hooves,
nose to tail.
Her heart breaks at every human fail.

She teaches that small details are so important and they are!

Correct angles of feet, Saddle fitting, saddle placement, bitting and bodywork. All first in importance by far!

Patient and kind is her way.
A voice for the voiceless is what she states with her heart on display.

Many decades of experience under her belt,
all her knowledge hard won, she invests every fiber of her being with hope, at her end, of hearing "well done".

With a servant's heart she works.
Gossip and drama are not her thing.
Keeping in mind she works for The King!

At times, people have mocked her training, her methods, her beliefs.
Spoken of her unkindly.
It's an unfortunate truth of this industry I'm finding.

She heeds not their words!
She lets her horses speak for her.
Lets the people talk like noisy little birds!

Patient and kind is her way.
She finds peace and serenity at the barn in the day.

Who is this trainer I am writing of so fondly that I've known?

It's the always famous, little known, Patti Cianflone.

Please forgive my ignorance.

How could this be, how could this happen
Not on our land
It came from such a dastardly plan

His people so blinded, by lies, filled with such hate

Farrier Day! Thank you, and
for another excellent day,
caring for the horses at my barn!

I'm so thankful, grateful, and blessed for these ladies who do such thorough, excellent, and careful work!

Keeping my horses' hooves in the very best condition!

Penny had her composite shoes removed & castings put back on her two fronts.

Bailey, Brandi, Freya, Hunter, Nugget & Kona all were trimmed.
P.S. Milo was done as well but didn't get a chance to take his 'pedicure pic' 🦄🤣

HOW DOES BRIDLE FIT AFFECT HIND LIMB ENGAGEMENT?

At The Horse Hub we are all about bringing you answers to the questions you may not know you even need to ask! Here is an excerpt from an excellent article answering the above question - and more, live on The Horse Hub now.

THE HYOID APPARATUS
The tongue is attached to a little group of bones at the back of the skull called the hyoid bones. These are an incredibly important and unique group of bones. Firstly, they are not attached to any other bones using joints; they are attached with ligaments.

The front bone embeds into the tongue with ligaments, it then attaches to two long thin bones, which are situated inside the jaw that attach to the TMJ. Behind these are two small bones that attach to muscles, which run down the lower neck into the scapula, along the abdominal wall and into the pelvis.

Problems with bridle fitting here, which restrict the ability of the tongue and lower jaw to move, will actually shut down the ability of the horse to recruit the lower ventral chain of muscles. If he cannot mobilise his jaw and tongue, he will send tension through the hyoid bones, up into the TMJ, down the muscles of the neck, through the thoracic sling and along the abdominal wall.

This impacts his ability to lift his back and engage his hindquarters. The horse is then put in a U shape; putting pressure along the dorsal spinal processes, disconnecting his shoulder sling and raising his head by recruiting the muscles underneath.

This is when we as riders, get locked into a spiral of asking our horses to lengthen their frame, drop their head, lift their back and engage their hindquarters but, not allowing them to naturally use themselves biomechanically correctly.

And a good time was had by all! Door dashed their fave foods, had goodies, played games, rode the horses, hardly slept, got up, door dashed breakfast, then stuffed hay nets and rode in a lesson, then rode some more!
Played in the pastures and got caught in the rain! LOL!

Interesting morning to say the least! I'm working alone today due to Bek being sick... I come into the barn at 5:50 AM. I pass by something large in the aisle. I thought must be the goat. I hadn't turned the lights on yet to get the folks inside excited thinking it was feeding time early. I go into the lounge, Feed the cat and come back out to go to the bathroom to wash my hands before I make coffee and have a snack.. Right outside the bathroom door is one of my 3ft. Christmas trees. It is on the ground and the star is off. I turn on my phone flash light and scream! A giant raven is standing on the tree staring at me just blinking. It was not phased by my startled scream. I ran and turned on the barn lights. I opened up the doors wide. It paused a moment as if studying this crazed lunatic of a woman, then calmly glided out of the barn! *Whew* Next I hear crash, clatter, bang coming from the indoor arena. I open up the indoor door and see nothing... then I see two little ears poking up out of the broken water trough in the corner where we store some hula hoops and other things we use for lessons. It is a fawn that is wide eyed and shaking. I approach cautiously and slowly. Suddenly, the poor baby springs out in a hail of colorful ball pit balls & hula hoops and runs a half lap around the indoor... I opened up the side gate to allow it to find its way out. I went about by business but 30 minutes later, it is still there just sniffing around the indoor. So I open up my back doors but keep the gate closed. There are places in the gate that the fawn could easily hop through. Lo and behold now there's a pheasant coming into the indoor as I open the doors! What the heck? It blew right past me, through the barn and out the front! Holy Moo! What a morning! After about an hour, the fawn finally bounded out into freedom. I closed the gates and wished it well! My hubby jokes and calls me Snow White. It always seems like creatures of all sorts are drawn
