Our Story
We are Bill and Lisa Burland Bill has been involved with the sport of Pure Bred Dogs since 1974...in Akitas…between 1974 and 2014 there were many Champions including producing the Best of Winners at the 1977 Akita Club of America National Specialty a couple of top Ten Akita’s and Winners Dog at the 1994 National Specialty in Albuquerque NM. As a result of our success in Akita’s we have earned AKC’s Breeder of Merit distinction. Bill and Lisa married in 1980 and have two daughters both of whom competed as Junior handlers and in the breed ring with both pointing several dogs including Alaskan Malamutes, Schipperkes, Pointers and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers. Granddaughters Ava & Caroline already have their Junior handler numbers…and when they enter the ring will mark the fourth generation to have shown a dog…William Sr. took best in Match, with an Akita puppy, his first time out and decided to quit while he was ahead. Our time in Pure Bred dogs has included lots of work behind the scenes too…we believe that after enjoying the sport and the efforts of so many volunteers over the years we needed to contribute. In 2004, Bill agreed to become the Assistant Show Chairman supporting Charlie Schaefer at the Kennel Club of Philadelphia/The National Dog Show on NBC, in 2005 when Charlie became President of The Kennel Club of Philadelphia, Bill moved into the role of Show Chair he remained in that role through the 2013 show. In 2015 Bill and Lisa took on roles with Bucks County Kennel Club as Show Chair and Site Hospitality Chair. We became involved with Toller’s in 2010 when daughter Kelly acquired “Scooter” as a companion and hunting dog, we have also had Pointers and were winding down our participation in Akita's. We stepped back from Akita's because of insurance, in 2006 we opened and equestrian facility on our farm and our insurance carrier put in a dog bite exclusion if we continued in Akita’s…so we let our senior citizens live out their lives and when the time came to get a puppy we had settled on Tollers. We’ve always loved Sporting breeds be they the Setters, Pointers or Retrievers so this was a natural evolution. We are also familiar with being part of a “new” breed and being a part of its development. We recognize that breeding is part science and part art to that end we test for any genetic traits so we can select the best possible pairings for our bi***es. GCH. Littleriver's Queen Madeline, Ch. Travelda’s Wendy Darlin and Travelda's Beach Baby are listed on K9 Data.com (and OFA) where anyone can inspect their health clearances (Transparancy). We understand that when you purchase a puppy its both a financial and emotional investment and we want you to know that we have tried to take every precaution possible when breeding...if you decide to purchase a puppy we strongly recommend that you become familiar with the breed and its specific health profile and understand how the breeder is mitigating the breed and pedigree risk...for example are they breeding away from carrier based DNA risk? When considering a purebred dog what sets us (breeders) apart from the rescue’s is that with a purebred dog we have documented many generations of dogs who have traits we (breeders) find desirable and have the visibility to health issues and can breed away from those problems, in dogs who have no history you cannot predict what outcomes (temperament or health) you will have. In addition to our Tollers we also breed Arabian Horses and are now into our second generation, we breed for performance in the English Division having bred one National Champion and own the 2006 Reserve National Champion English Jr Horse (now a brood mare). We also run Travelda Farm a boarding facility in Quakertown PA…you can find more about Travelda Farm LLC on our website.
