Earlier this week, Stitch’s newest riding partner took her first fall when he spooked. This photo is of her riding him after the fall with a big ol’ smile! I’m so very proud of her for getting back on!
Falling off a horse is a milestone in learning to ride. If often does hurt, but learning a proper “emergency dismount” to help bail you out when you get into trouble can help. Sometimes it’s your own fault for things like losing your balance or forgetting to tighten your girth, or even for letting an “argument” escalate when you should have made a compromise. Other times, there’s no way to avoid it. They make a split decision to go a different direction or they get spooked suddenly. Whatever the reason, you learn from it and get back on.
