🎆 4th of July Pet Safety Tips! 🐾

While we humans may love the fireworks, BBQs, and festivities — our furry friends definitely don’t. Keep your pets safe and stress-free this Independence Day with these quick tips:

🔒 Keep them indoors — Loud noises and flashing lights can spook pets, causing them to bolt or panic. Secure them in a quiet, escape-proof room.

🎧 Create a calm space — Turn on calming music, white noise, or the TV to help mask fireworks sounds.

🐶 Skip the scraps — BBQ food and party treats can upset your pet’s stomach (or worse). Keep people food out of paw’s reach!

🧨 Avoid fireworks exposure — Fireworks are terrifying for pets and can lead to anxiety, injuries, or even running away.

🆔 Update ID tags & microchips — Just in case they slip out, make sure your pet’s ID is current and microchip info is up to date.

🎆 Fireworks, loud music, crowded gatherings — for humans, the 4th of July is a celebration. For pets, it can feel like the sky is falling. 🎆

Every year, veterinary hospitals see a spike in anxiety-related emergencies around the 4th of July. The loud noises and bright flashes can cause extreme fear, pacing, trembling, hiding, and even dangerous attempts to escape.

The good news? There are solutions — and it’s better to prepare now than the day of. 🐾✨

Anti-anxiety medications, calming supplements, and personalized care plans can help your pet stay safe and relaxed during the festivities. Each pet is different, which is why we recommend scheduling a consult to find the safest, most effective option for your furry friend.

Meet Ravin!

Last week, Ravin, a sweet and spirited pup, found her way through an open gate and set off on an unexpected adventure around town. Thankfully, she was safely picked up by the Gilbert Police Department and brought to us for care. Because Ravin was both microchipped and wearing a Ring QR code tag on her collar, we were able to quickly access her information, contact her family, and reunite them — all within just 10 minutes of her arrival!

Ravin’s story is a wonderful example of responsible pet ownership. Her family had taken every precaution to ensure her safety: up-to-date microchip registration, scannable ID tags, and accessible emergency contact information. These simple, proactive steps made it possible for her to get home quickly and avoid a potentially much more frightening outcome.

However, Ravin’s journey was not without risk. Even though it was early in the morning and temperatures were a relatively mild 80 degrees, Ravin was already showing signs of heatstroke when she arrived. This serves as an important reminder — heat-related illness can occur in pets even when temperatures don’t feel extreme to us. Dogs are particularly vulnerable because they can’t regulate their body temperature as efficiently as humans. Early signs of heatstroke can include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, and weakness. If untreated, it can escalate quickly and become life-threatening.

Fortunately, Ravin received immediate medical attention. We’re especially proud to share that the cost of Ravin’s care during her stay was fully covered by our Angel Fund. Supported entirely by the generosity of our community, the Angel Fund ensures that pets like Ravin receive the urgent care they need without delay, regardless of their family’s financial situation.

🌾 Foxtails: Small, Sharp, and Dangerous 🌾
Warmer weather means more time outside—but it also means foxtail season is in full swing. These barbed grass seeds may look harmless, but they can cause serious injury to your pets.

Foxtails can burrow into the skin and travel through the body, leading to infections, abscesses, and even life-threatening complications if not treated promptly.

🚨 Watch for these warning signs:
🔹 Persistent sneezing or head shaking
🔹 Licking or chewing at paws
🔹 Sudden limping or swelling
🔹 Red, irritated eyes or squinting
🔹 Any new symptoms after outdoor activity

🐾 How to protect your pet:
✔️ Avoid overgrown or weedy areas
✔️ Inspect paws, ears, nose, and coat after walks
✔️ Keep long fur trimmed, especially around the feet and ears
✔️ Seek veterinary care immediately if you suspect a foxtail

☀️ Hot Weather Alert: Know the Signs of Heatstroke in Pets! ☀️

As temperatures rise, so does the risk of heatstroke—and for our furry companions, it can turn dangerous very quickly. Unlike humans, pets can’t sweat to cool off. They rely on panting and shade to regulate body temperature, and sometimes, that’s just not enough.

🚨 Here are the most common signs of heatstroke in pets to watch for:

Excessive panting or difficulty breathing

Bright red or pale gums

Drooling, vomiting, or diarrhea

Lethargy, collapse, or confusion

Seizures or unresponsiveness in severe cases

⚠️ What to do:
If you suspect heatstroke, move your pet to a cool, shaded area, offer small sips of water, and call your veterinarian immediately. Heatstroke is a medical emergency—don’t wait it out.

💡 Prevention tips:

Walk early in the morning or after sunset
