This is the little nursery house that germinates all our seeds. It also serves as a space to experiment with various growing methods such as aeroponics, ebbs and flow flood trays, vertical tower growing, and cloning to name a few.⁠ 🌱⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠

The concept of ‘Living Lettuce’ is simple. When we harvest for one of our lettuce boxes, we leave the roots attached to the plant. This allows the plant to continue living off the nutrient-rich substrate. ⁠

Lettuce and leafy greens lose about 30% of their nutrients within 3 days of harvest. By the time you buy your produce at the grocery store, it has spent days in transport and on shelves. ⁠

This time from a conventional farm to table loses vital nutrients such as vitamin C, folate, and carotenoids to name a few. ⁠
🥬⁠
By allowing the plant to continue living you will have fresher more nutritious produce that will be crispy and crunchy whenever you are ready to eat.⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠

These little cherry tomatoes are growing through the cold Arizona winter in bato buckets. The awesome thing about growing hydroponically in a controlled environment is that we can grow amazing produce year-round. 🍅⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠

Happy Road Farms never uses genetically modified seeds. We believe the quality of our food starts from seed through harvest. These amazing seeds have their own little greenhouse so they can grow strong under the perfect conditions. 🌱⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠

Living foods! We harvest our lettuce with the roots still on so it continues to live off of the substrate long after it leaves our farm (pun intended). This keeps the produce fresh and alive in your refrigerator for weeks!! Come out to the farm on Saturdays from 9-2.

We filled bato buckets with heirloom tomatoes today! There would have been more footage but the heat caused the camera to turn off 🤷‍♂️
We can’t wait for our juicy organic tomatoes later this Fall! 🍅🍅🍅
