Your dog’s eyes are incredibly important to their overall well-being, and conditions like cherry eye can cause discomfort and stress.
Cherry eye occurs when the tear gland in the third eyelid becomes displaced, leading to a visible red mass. This condition is particularly common in younger dogs and certain breeds.

Fortunately, cherry eye is treatable, and early intervention can prevent complications. Our team is here to help your pet see clearly and feel comfortable again! Schedule a visit if you suspect your dog might have cherry eye.🍒🐾

Jax’s journey to wellness has been anything but straightforward!
This lovable Labrador Retriever initially presented with severe skin irritation that just wouldn’t go away, despite treatments from another vet. His family was understandably concerned when his symptoms—intense scabbing, skin ulcers, and hair loss—kept returning with a vengeance after medication was stopped.
That’s when they sought a second opinion with us. Dr. Carly carefully reviewed his case, and after some additional research, she suspected Pemphigus, a rare autoimmune disorder where the immune system mistakenly attacks the skin, leading the symptoms listed above.
With this new diagnosis, we were able to start Jax on the right treatment plan, and the results have been nothing short of amazing. Jax is now well on his way to recovery, and we couldn’t be happier for him and his family! 🐾💚

Meet George, an adorable little orange fluffball!🐱🧡

His neuter was postponed yesterday due to abnormal pre-operative lab results, but he enjoyed extra love from our team and brightened our day while waiting for his mom! 🥰

This highlights why pre-op bloodwork is so important—it allows us to identify and manage any unexpected underlying health issues prior to surgery. We're now addressing George's other concerns to ensure he's in the best health possible!

We can’t wait to see you again little buddy!🤭💛

Happy Saturday everyone!🤗

Today we wanted to highlight a patient that we had come in on Tuesday with signs of GI upset, f***l incontinence, and inappetence. His amazing family agreed for us to take abdominal radiographs to help us visualize any noticeable changes or obstructions. And sure enough, we found the culprit… gravel!🪨

Gravel ingestion is relatively common, particularly among puppies or dogs that like to explore the environment with their mouth. Ingestion of gravel may also be due to boredom, curiosity, stress, or underlying issues. In this case though, we believe Mr. Otis found a spot where yummy barbecue was spilled, and accidentally found himself in a tough situation! 🫢🥩

For his first visit, Otis’ family opted for medical management; wanting us to give him fluid therapy and medications to try and help move the gravel through his GI. When he came in the following day for follow-up radiographs, there was not much change. At this time, it was determined that surgery would be the best option, and he was transferred to our surgery team!

Dr. Lindquist was able to get as much of the gravel out of his GI, and we were able to safely recover him in time to send him home for the night! This is a tough surgery, but Mr. Otis was so brave, and we absolutely adored his personality and determination while he was in recovery! We hope that he continues to improve from here!❤️

If your pet is experiencing any symptoms of GI upset: vomiting, diarrhea (with or without blood present), inappetence, lethargy, pain on palpation, etc. then call our office at (480)987-8000. Or visit our website at www.qcvetclinic.com for more information!

🐾Paws and Think Thursday!🐾

When was the last time your pet had dental care?

Annual dental cleanings are essential for maintaining optimal dental health. Dental infections can affect bone and gum health, often leading to the need for extractions. However, pets that have teeth extracted, whether it’s one, multiple, or full-mouth, recover quickly and experience significant improvements in comfort and well-being. Extractions or not, you can rest assured knowing your pet is in great hands the whole time!

Give us a call at (480) 987-8000 to schedule your pet’s dental cleaning!

🐾Surgical Sunday Spotlight! 🐾

Today we’re highlighting Gastric Dilation-Volvulus (GDV), and the surgical procedure commonly offered to prevent it: Gastropexy. GDV is often seen in large breeds, like Great Danes and German Shepherds, and it occurs when the stomach twists, cutting off blood flow. This emergency can be prevented with a Gastropexy, which is a surgical procedure that anchors the stomach to the abdominal wall.

Ensure your furry friend stays safe and healthy—ask us about how to schedule a Gastropexy today! 💙🐶

🐶❤️FURRY FRIEND FRIDAY❤️🐶

Earlier this month we had Miss Stormy, a beautiful French Bulldog, visit us for pregnancy radiographs to determine how many puppies she should be expecting. Based on the amount of skulls we could count on x-ray, we determined she would have 4 puppies!

Yesterday Miss Stormy came back in for a scheduled C-Section with our surgery team. But during her initial check-in exam, the team noticed that she was passing the amniotic sac, and starting the labor process herself! 😱

It is normally very uncommon in French Bulldogs to have a successful natural birth, due to various factors with the breed that can cause complications. But with lots of love, encouragement, and a calm environment, Miss Stormy had delivered 3 healthy puppies. She did unfortunately have one deliver stillborn, but we are very proud of her nonetheless for being so resilient and brave throughout the entire process. 🥰❤️

Although Stormy was a successful natural birth case, there are potential issues that can arise:

1. Dystocia (Difficult Birth): Some dogs may have difficulty giving birth due to factors such as the size or position of the puppies, or the size and shape of the mother’s pelvis.
In French Bulldogs specifically, the brachycephalic skull structure of the puppies, and narrow pelvis of the mother contribute to complications with delivery.
2. Prolonged Labor: If labor takes too long, it can endanger both the mother and the puppies.
3. Uterine Inertia: This occurs when the uterus fails to contract properly, preventing the birth process from progressing.
French Bulldogs specifically are more prone to this as well.
4. Retained Placenta: If the placenta is not expelled after birth, it can lead to infection.
5. Postpartum Complications: Issues such as hemorrhaging or infection can arise after the puppies are born.

Due to these factors, veterinary professionals often recommend scheduled Cesarean Sections, particularly for brachycephalic breeds, to create a safer and more controlled delivery process. Please feel free to reach out to our office if you need any veterinary care for your pregnant pet!❤️

⚠️❗️Blood/Incision Warning❗️⚠️

MEDICAL MONDAY: Leg Amputations

At our clinic, we recently performed a leg amputation surgery on a brave patient named Power. While this may sound daunting, leg amputation in pets is often a life-saving procedure, especially when dealing with severe injuries, tumors, or chronic conditions that affect limb function and quality of life.

Leg amputation in pets is carefully considered based on various factors like the pet's age, overall health, the extent of the condition, and the potential benefits of surgery. In many cases, pets adapt remarkably well to life on three legs, experiencing significant pain relief and improved mobility post-surgery.

With proper care, patience, and love, pets like Power often regain their zest for life, enjoying activities they previously struggled with due to pain or mobility issues.

We understand that facing a leg amputation for your beloved pet can be emotionally challenging. Our clinic is here not only to provide top-notch medical care but also emotional support and guidance throughout the entire journey.

If you have any questions about leg amputation in pets or if your furry friend requires such a procedure, don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to help ensure the best possible outcome and quality of life for your pet.❤️
